For anyone who supports Nestle boycott...The Body Shop!
« on: March 17, 2006, 16:12:28 pm »
I know some of you do support the boycott as it's been mentioned on this site. Today The Body Shop has been bought by L'Oreal so it seems The Body Shop has joined the list of companies/products under the boycott. Nestle holds 26.4% of L'Oreal.

The Nestle boycott exists because of their violation of The World Health Organisation (WHO) marketing code for baby milk. The WHO estimates that 1.5 million infants die around the world every year because they are not breastfed. Where water is unsafe a bottle-fed child is up to 25 times more likely to die as a result of diarrhoea than a breastfed child.

That is why a marketing code was introduced in 1981 to regulate the marketing of breastmilk substitutes. Companies continue to violate its provisions e.g Nestle hiring doctors to sit in supermarkets in China to promote formula to pregnant customers and mothers with children.

Here's a link to the Baby Milk Action website for more info.

Choosing to support this boycott is not something the baby whisperer site officially supports or doesn't support - it's entirely up to the individual.

Oh well, at least i don't really use their stuff! Most of the stuff on the list i can cope without, but the one thing that tempts me is Kit Kats!!

Tell you what really pi$$es me off though - Trinny and Susannah doing their Nescafe promo again. I know they are aware of the Boycott - most NCT branches have written to them about it, and they both have young children. I expected better of them!

Thanks for the post.... if only more ppl were concerned about this we wouldn't have to keep lists...  They would all be out of business!

I cant believe that The Body Shop was bought by l'oreal.  Wasnt anita rod very idealistic and ran her business within the ideals of fair trade?  Im really disapointed :(  Where are all the good guys going?

Can you believe Anita Rod has done this? What a sell-out. A real shame.

Well done for keeping the boycott in our minds (I do try, but it gets harder as they buy all these smaller companies up)
Caroline :)
