Growth Spurt on Past Due Babies
« on: March 19, 2006, 11:24:42 am »
Did your DC experince their growth spurt ealier? My DS will be 2 weeks old on Tuesday, but would have been 3 week today if born on time. He has been up every hour wanting to eat. Has this happened to anyone before?

Hi

DS was born a week early and I don't treat him as a week early. I would if he was classed as a prem baby, my friend gave birth 7 weeks early.

Sorry, I am not quite sure what your asking. He is draining his bottles at every feed, it may be he nees more in them? DS was always hungry for the first month then it evened out.

Is it every hour at night or daytime? Has he got his days/night swapped?

it may be better if you can post your routine.

thanks

Although the growth spurt would typically be around 3 weeks, due to the individuality of babies it can be a bit earlier or later.

These links give a bit more info about them (I gather you are breastfeeding - although it would be similar for formula fed babies too)

Seona:  I'm thinking he was just hungry last night, b/c the feeding frenzy has seemingly stopped.

Calums_Mum:  After taking a nap and re-reading sections of the book, We really think that the little guy has daytime and nighttime mixed up.  I think we were getting into a habbit of accidental parenting, being happy when he slept at all (even if it was during the day).  So we started waking him up from his naps and being sure to keep him up for a little bit before going back to sleep.  We'll see how sleeping goes tonight, although I'm sure it will take a few days to see a change.  After discussing with my husband we really need to focus on the 3 hr schedule and try to integrate a dream feed.

Thanks so much for your responses!!!
