Hates being on his tummy - Please help
« on: March 21, 2006, 09:02:52 am »
My lo will not lie on his tummy for more than about 1 minute.  He has never rolled over and I really don't think he is gonna crawl.  He is now nearly 9 months and I am a bit worried that something may be wrong.

Please can anyone help me or put my mind at rest that this is okay as all the babies at Mother and Baby club his age and younger are rollling over and over and crawling

Have I done something wrong

Hi, my lo is just over 7 months old, does not roll, but the other babies around him except one are rolling. He sits up very well, better than some of the others and also can stand with me holding him.  Therefore I am not worried.  He doesn't like much tummy time either and I think he will either be a bum shuffler or go straight to walking.

I don't think some babies are meant to roll!!  HTH!

Same here - and I have a nightmare SIL who is hell-bent on comparing my lo with her children (youngest is 1 year older than my ds). So she makes me well aware that Tyson is not crawling yet (only 7.5 months tho!) when hers crawled at 5 months (yeah, right).

Anyway, don't let it worry you - try not to get into the comparing game. He will get there when he gets there.

One book I have actually says that crawling is NOT a reflection of intelligence or athletic potential. And it also says that most babies crawl between 8 and 10 months, but SOME NEVER WILL. Ask your mum what you did crawling-wise - it may give you an idea of the developmental path your lo will take.

In my case, my mum has told me that she bum-shuffled, as did both I and my older brother. So maybe my lo will do the same....

Not to worry. My cousins three year old never rolled over or crawled at all and went straight to walking at 11 months. He is a very bright lively active three year old now so, every baby is different. If you continued to be concerned as the months go by, maybe mention it to your pediatrician and he may have some exercises or suggestions for you. The baby comparing game is so ridiculous. It's not a competition. Take care.

my DD is the same, she likes her tummy for 5 mins or so and then gets super frustrated because she can't get to her toys.  she can roll (has done so when really desperate to get off her tummy) but prefers to cry and get me to sit her up.  I worry about it too but just try to remember that I never crawled until I was a year old and it hasn't done me any harm!  I try to remember that these sitting babies are taking in the world and becoming thinking people!  ::) :-*
