one side feeding and engorgement?
« on: March 21, 2006, 21:08:31 pm »
Hi all. I am 39wks and 3days and waiting. I was curious to know when you start to feed one sided (which is recommended by the BW to start on the 4th day) do you get engorged on the other unused breast. Or are you constantly lopsided. Thanks. Vicki. ???

OOOh not long now!
I started off one sided and my breasts seemed to adjust very easily. I don't remember having any extra engorgement due to feeding one-sided (but I was pretty lucky with that anyway). Breasts do what's asked of them in this situation and settle down quickly.

I too don't remember ant "lop-sided" issues and we adjusted pretty quick - though by 4 months we were back too and still are at both sides - he likes it better that way - he gets frustrated after the intial let down is down and switches back and forth :-[ :-[ It works for us!

Just remember nurse as often as baby wants the first few days till your milk is in good - may take longer then 4 days - just relax, drink LOTS of water and let the baby nurse.  :) :)

Nursing on one side didn't make me lopsided either.  One breat generally feels heavier and if you don't have a method for remembering which breast is next, you can usually tell by the weight.  But not generally the look.  (But to be honest, you won't care if you look lopsided!  Well, I didn't anyways, it was the least of my concerns.)

Good luck with your delivery!!!!!
