Making/Storing Bananas
« on: March 22, 2006, 21:14:10 pm »
DD loves very ripe bananas - well as long as they are pureed with a bit of water. Anyway, she only eats about 1/4-1/3 of the banana at a time. If I puree the whole banana, will it be good for a day in the fridge?

I read somewhere that adults think that bananas are 'off' because they go brown. But they are actually fine and taste the same, it's just the colour that's different. So I guess they should keep fine in the fridge, even if the colour isn't great.

yes i agree , i've seen something about this on t.v  . in some countries they don't eat a banana untill it's black ! they were shocked that we eat them when they are yellow. i think you can freeze banana , so you could make a batch and freeze , defrost in the morning and it's ready to eat at lunch time

Thanks guys. I can try freezing but don't normally make a large enough batch to make it worth it. Maybe just puree a whole banana and put it in the fridge and use it within 24 hours? In a tupperware, of course...

Also, we do some homemade food, some jarred. Bananas only fresh, never jarred. But any clue how much fresh banana mashed or pureed with a bit of water would equal 2.5 ounce jar? Just curious how much she is eating...

I tried freezing bananas and it never worked, they didn't freeze properly and after they were defrosted the texture was all wrong.  but yes I store them in the fridge for 24 hours and they taste fine the next day even though they look very different  ::)

Thanks guys. I made some this morning (just pureed a ripe organic banana with some water) and DD ate some and put rest in fridge - will give to her later. So it's OK if it gets all brown - just make sure it still tastes OK first?
