Adult Oatmeal
« on: March 24, 2006, 00:21:12 am »
My ds is almost 10 months.  I am thinking of giving him regular Quaker Oatmeal for breakfast instead of the baby food type.  Does anyone have any experience or thoughts on this?

I'm slowly trying to wean him onto foods that DH and I eat to make meal planning a little easier. ;)

Well the difference between baby and adult oatmeal is that baby oatmeal is iron fortified.  That is still very important for your LO right now.  I would wait till 1 year old to make the switch, when baby's iron needs lessen and they switch to cow's milk.

We kept Tyler on infant oatmeal as long as we could...he's 2, and still eats it from time to time. You just can't beat the iron your LO gets from it. Iron deficiencies in babies under 18 mo have been linked to developmental delays, so like cwolff said, I'd hold off for a bit longer.
