frozen breast milk

can some one tell me the best way to defrost frozen breastmilk?

I used to either put it in a pan of just boiled water or if I was in a hurry I'd defrost it v.carefuly in the microwave  hth

I think if you're being well-behaved you should avoid microwaving or bringing your milk anywhere near boiling point. I've read it can change the milk's composition and has a big effect on the anti-bacterial benefits. Ideally you should put in the fridge to defrost. If you can't do that then I used to run it under a tap of warm water (still in the bag obviously!). I know it's not always possible to be 'good' though!

Definately agree with samuels mum! I stand mine in a bowl of warm, not too hot, water, it defrosts suprisingly quick.

thank you... could you just clarify...

eg... i need a bottle for ds at nursery tomorrow pm and only have frozen (v busy day today) should i defrost it myself and send it in a cool bag or can i just take it out of the freezer and into a cool bag and the girls can defrost it with warm water proir to giving it to ds??  sorry to be so picky its just that i seem to have given him upset tummy twice before with frozen ebm.

once fully defrosted it is ok for 6 hours(some say 24hrs!) in fridge or in your coolbag, I'd do it yourself so that you are sure its done properly......paranoid mum here!!!

I would probably also say do it yourself and then put it in coolbag. When you hand it over - ask them to warm it in the bowl of hottish water and explain about it not getting too hot.
