Help! Wont take bottle anymore
« on: March 31, 2006, 15:01:24 pm »
Please is there any one out there who could help me.  DD was taking the bottle great and now wants nothing to do with it, she takes about 20-40mls in the first try then cries bloody murder if I try to give her anymore, she does not seem hungry and does not want to feed, I burp her and try to comfort her to no avail.  She has reflux but it has died down and shows hardly any symptoms at all, she is currently taking zantac.  Also she is on nutrimigen formula thickened with thickner to make it a nectar consistency, I am using #2 avent teats and the formula has a slow dripm when coming outof bottle so I know that is not a problem.  Yesterday was a fight to get formula in her only took about 300mls, she woke up @ 4am and took 60mls,Easier to feed when she is sleepy), then at 7:am we started her day and she only took 20mls in a hour she sceamed the whole time.  I have noticed that her last two bowel movements have been a kaki green color and a little hard, unlike her ususal yellow seedy stools.  I am at a loss, she is 11 weeks old and weighs 7 1/2 lbs. I have also taken her temp and it is normal.  I am at a loss I dont think I will be able to go on like this, I got so frusatrated and upset with her this morning.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I think you need to take your LO to the doctor. Does your doctor know about these problems?

Yes our doctor is aware of everything and says it is all normal.  I was so frustrated this morning that I brought her over to grandmas housew.  My mum gave her some sugar water and within 10 minutes she started tooting and had a bowelk movement, she was very constipated.  After a short nap she took her whole bottle again.  I am so happy thank goodness for mums.  I cannot believe I did not figure that out on my own.

Oh wow! You could have just been talking about my boy!!!!!!Forgive me, but Im delighted to hear I am not alone!! Thomas was a great eater, in fact I was worried that he was eating too much, but now its another story. I am a bit of a worrier by nature but am trying really hard to rational about this one. I have looked around a few books to read up on eating habits of three month olds, and it seems they have good days and bad days. I found a posting whch you might find useful. If you go to the main menu of eating and go to bottle feeding. Find a posting titled 'fussy eaters'...........she mentions the thickening agent you are already using and a swallowing x-ray that can be taken to see if your baby has aproblem with this.....But I have a sneaky feeling that our babies are just going through a phase. Im keeping a feeding diary so I can keep a tab on it, and take it to the doctors if it continues. Has your baby lost weight? Is she happy and bouncey when not eating? I am also very disressesd about it as feeding time used to be such a joyful time. I was half boobing and half bottling with no probs until last week! Lets hold each others hands over this one!

Nice to know we are not alone, my daughter so far is steadily gaining weight and for the most part she is happy when not eating, likes to look around the room from her swing and loves to be in her snugglie, usually dropping off in it.  Boy this phase has got to be the worst.  My girlfriend and her husband have a toddler who is textbook for terrible twos, and I think that would be easier to handle some days lol.  Hopefully this will end soon.

Cheers, holding your hand lol
