What if she only likes banana's
« on: March 30, 2006, 05:04:41 am »
My daughter loves bananas.  She will eat them every meal if she could.  i'm worried about constipation and also about her not liking other foods.  Prunes seem to help with the constipation, but what do I do about adding other food in?  Any suggestions?

Sorry i have no advice but at least bananas wont change her skin colour...my son would only eat pumpkin and his skin is ornage around his nose/mouth area.....I kid you not!!! People always ask if hes just eaten, does he need his face wiped!!! Unfortunately no,he is stained!!!

All i an suggest is to ride it out.what i have done with my son is provide him with various finger foods and let him experiment with what he likes and doesnt like.He still will only have pumpkin  as his main food (he has pumpkin/kumara or pumpkin/potato or pumpkin/kumara/carrots ....basically pumpkin and  anything really) Finally at nearly 8 months  he is now sucking on various finger foods,so im relieved!!!

Hang in there, babies have likes and dislikes your wee one will soon find other things they enjoy too.

Take care
Kirsty

I don't know whether this was the right thing to do or not, but dd1 used to be (well, still is really!) very fussy, and I used to mix banana with just about anything to get her to have more variety in her diet.  She also liked peaches, so I would mix peaches with other foods (yes, including meats!).

I know this technique did not help her to like other foods (as she couldn't taste them) but she really just would not eat a lot of things, and I worried about her iron intake etc.

Denise we did this as well, not because DS would only eat banana but for variety.

Kate are you still using the mesh feeder for the bananas, does she fed herself? you may also want to try and sneak in a bit steamed apple, pear, avocado, sweet potato, etc.

What does Eloise do when you put finger food in front of her?  She may have also developed a 'sweet tooth' for it.

P.S I did a search on bananas and I don't thinl it is that unusual, the main thing is to persever with other foods and offer finger foods.

thanks for all the thoughts.

Lauren - she still uses the feeder every now and then.  I have snuck an avocado in there and she seems to do okay.  I have also tried pears in the morning and she seems to be taking to those.  I have also mixed bananas with avo in a bowl...seems okay.  She likes teething biscuits and will knaw on a carrot.  She hates oatmeal and I think likes the textures of bananas.  I'm always worried about choking so it's hard sometimes to give those finger foods.

I have thought about using bananas to mix in with foods, maybe i'll go ahead and do that.

I was initially worried about constipation, but I have snuck in a little prunes and that seems to help.

thanks so much

I mix it with rice cereal mostly, She's not a huge fan of the oatmeal.  She seemed to like prunes and carrot, so that is an improvement.  I guess I'll just keep trying..thanks
