Ok, my turn.

The reason I am so happy to still be breastfeeding is because of the health benefits to my baby and myself.

Really, honest, that's it.  And it makes me feel so incredibly satisfied to know that I am giving my children the best start in life possible - something that will benefit them their entire lives.  It's not something you can go back and catch up on later on.  It's a one-shot deal.

My number one reason for even breastfeeding in the first place was for the health benefits.  If there wasn't such overwhelming evidence, and more of it coming all the time, about how beneficial mother's milk is to the baby and about how beneficial nursing is for the mother, I wouldn't have bothered.  In my opinion, contrary to the hype, formula feeding is ten times easier on the mother in this crazy 'modern' world we live in which gives no credence to breastfeeding.  Every formula feeding mom I know has left her baby in the care of a relative for 6 hours or more just weeks after birth.  They've gotten to go out and been rejuvinated and rested from baby care.  Can't do that when you're breastfeeding exclusively.  But I relish my sacrifice in that area as an important and worthwhile one.

Well said Petunia. No matter how easy it might seem, in my opinion..and in my life...breastfeeding is a big sacrifice. Many many of my friends and acquaintances have had babies recently, and like you said, have been able to leave their babies for long periods of time to do whatever they want. At social gatherings or family gatherings, the baby would just be passed around and who ever had it by feeding time would just stick in a bottle. In my case, I would run upstairs and (in the beginning) struggle getting my lo to latch on, and then stay on, and  sometimes deal with his frustration if my letdown was too slow, or not having enough milk...dont even get me started on how hard it was to be out of a house.

Anyway, its much much easier now but my point is that it is hard, and it is a sacrifice, but I am still happy to be breastfeeding and will continue to do it for each of my babies

Breastfeeding is a huge sacrifice...just like you said...I remember only being "allowed" to be out of the house for max of 2 hours...my LO would not take any EBM out of bottle!!
But....looking back on it....I wouldnt trade any of it for the world....Even though I could never find a comfortable feeding position....I loved the closeness of having my baby right on me....it was an amazing experience!!

From the first moment that she latched on and looked up at me with those beautiful brown eyes with a complete sense of trust- I was sold.  I love the bond that bf has created between her and me.  I love the way her little nose wrinkles up when she first latches on.  I love it when she smiles at me with my breast still in her mouth and milk dribbles down her cheek.  I love the way her eyes light up when she knows it is time to feed.  I love the way her little hand holds onto mine during feeding.   I love the sense of peace and joy it brings to me to hold her close and provide her with the best nutrition that I possible can give her.  I love the fact that it is portable ;), always warm, always ready, and always enough.
Before I gave birth to my dd, I had reluctantly decided to breastfeed because I knew that was what was best, but from the moment I first fed her, I never could imagine doing anything else.  Even in that first week when we struggled to get her to latch on and suck properly, it was worth it.  It is one of the great miracles and blessings of motherhood!  I truly love breastfeeding!

Wait until your dd is a little older and will start stroking your arm and chest and making little mmmmmmmmmmm(yummmy) sounds and hums little singsongs while playing with her feet and trying to laugh and suck at the same time...its adorable and it feels so good to watch it!

I was so very happy to be breastfeeding this past holiday as we had a ton of relatives in the house and every time my lovely 2 mo dd got hungry I got to take her back and have her all to myself.  So incredibly selfish, but I don't think I would have gotten to hold my baby for the past week and a half without that.  :) :)

Ohhh, Erin, how lovely for you both.   :-*  Not selfish at all!!

I remember that last Xmas when DS was only 10 weeks old. SIGH..... I still got to nip away and he had his nip at bedtime though this year with all the noise of the company in the background... it was so nice...I even closed my eyes for a bit... I could of stayed all night, but the chocolate cheese cake and coffees were calling my name!  LOL!

I am happy to be BF'ing as we just finished the last of cutting our 16 teeth (yes I cut them too IYKWIM!) and Nello had a cold with a fever of 103F as well. He was only existing on BM, so I knew he was still being nourished, hydrated and it helped him to a speedy recovery I feel.

yes, newmom21  totally!!!  It is so sweet.  Jules thinks she can somehow look at a book whilst nursing. (We are not on EASY, we nurse at naptime and bedtime right after a story.  Bad I know, but it works for us)  Little stinker.  She only hangs on for about 1 or 2 minutes but tries with all her might to do both, too bad for her I'm not made of rubber, otherwise she would just turn her head with my nipple in her mouth.

And Jules got Infantus roseolla in November.  She wouldn't eat a thing, had a 104.8 fever for 3 days and didn't sleep a wink unless she was on the booby.  If it weren't for BF who know's how much wt she'd have lost.  That's enough reason to keep me doing it as long as she will.

Butting in to say that the first 4 months of breastfeeding were a nightmare. My baby had constant periods of cluster nursing, She would nurse every 1 1/2 hour during the day, but fortunately I didn't give up. After 4 months things were perfect, except for the nights (she still doesn't sleep through the night... :-[). Anyway, I'm so happy about breastfeeding her because absolutely nothing can compare to the long talks we have while she nurses, in a total absence of words.

Even though BFing hurt so much in the first 2 wks w/ both my sons, and probably even more with my second son since I had to have a c-section, I would still do it in a heart beat if I had another baby.

It's the most special way to bond with them, which at the same time also provide them the best nutrients they could possibly get. Especially during those night time feedgins, I love the feeling of picking up Daniel and feeling his warm little body against my just when he gets started nursing.

I love to hear the sound of Daniel taking those big gulps of my milk.

I love the fact that my milk is always at the most ideal temperature & doesn't require heating up!

Wow - you ladies seem to be reading my thoughts...
I love bf'ing also because it's just Joshua and me time... the way he can tell me he is hungry by flopping himself sideways and wiggling into position... it's quiet time... he's getting the best start b/c of bf'ing... and he can come with me wherever I go and his meals are always prepped, clean and easy to serve... I also love the fact that the girls are making themselves useful... but most of all... the eye contact and sweet smile when he pops off and has milk dribbling down his cheek- it melts my heart.  :-*

At the risk of sounding like everyone else, I won't go into all my likes about BF. As it seems everyone has already summed it up perfectly. However I will say one thing.
I love my DS and no one will ever be able to share the same moments with him, that I have.
That's why I love Breastfeeding so much!
