Question: Should I really wake my sleeping baby for the so-called "dream feed" that's never really a dream?
History: At 5.5w my baby started doing 5 hour stretches from 11 to 4. This happened for 4 nights. Then she switched the 5 hour stretch from 8 to 1. That's when I intervened and started doing the dream feed at 10 or 11 to switch her back. It was never like the book described. My baby became fully alert, always required a diaper change, cried, the full monty. Thereafter she went back to 3 to 4 hour stretches for a few nights. Then she did 6 hour streches for 2 nights (from 11 to 5). Now she's back to 3 to 4 hour stretches.
Should I continue to wake my baby to eat at 10 or 11 in hopes she goes from there? It's never the "dream" Tracy describes. I can't feed my baby in the complete dark anyway! What's more, the other sleep expert, Dr. Weisbluth(?) adamantly advises against waking sleeping babies! Add to that, that I'm worried she won't recognize her 7 or 8 p.m. feed and routine as the "bedtime" cue if I'm going to wake her 3 hours later! I'm so confused
