Crying out but stops.
« on: April 06, 2006, 12:59:59 pm »
Just a quick query.

My little DS goes down for his morning nap really well and sleeps for 2 / 2 and a half hours but the afternoon he is more fitful.

This is what happens (I've tried looking for the cues as to when he needs to go down): when I put him down he goes to sleep fairly quickly. At the 45 min sleep cycle he cries out a couple of wah wah's and then settles himself. Ten mins later he does it again. I don't go in because he isn't really too bothered and the crying has normally stopped by the time I have got to the top of the stairs. After another 10 mins I go and check on him and his eyes are shut and one arm flopped above his head and the rest of him still swaddled. The strange thing is I can then get another cry in 10 minutes and it follows the same pattern. I am not sure whether he is really sleeping and just doing those phatom baby cries Tracy talks about.

Anyone else had this. I tend to leave him if he wakes up as long as possible if he is suppose to be napping (I am not sure if this is right). We are still having 3 naps a day. I can't get him to stay awake for more than 1:30 / 1:45 any time of the day because he seems to need his sleep.

The sun is shining on his window and although the curtains are blackout it is still quite light (I am waiting for better black out blinds to be fitted) for the afternoon nap.

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

How old is your DS?

I think by the sounds of it, it is a Mantra cry,  this is pretty normal, but my DD has never done this though.  You don't go in if it is a Mantra cry.

sounds like your doing exactly what you need to do :) He's learning to resettle himself.

I agree with everything that has been said.  Sounds like he's on the path to learing to resettle himself.  I think if you were to go in it would disrupt him and possibly create a problem.  He is just making baby noises and probably does not need to be tended to.  Way to go!

Thanks for the reassurance.

J

Looks like it's going to rain today so hopefully they will both sleep a long nap :)

Just an update. The crying out still happens but he seems to have got better at going back to sleep between sleep cycles. We are away for the weekend and his routine will be stuffed up a bit. I just hope he holds on to his settling skills and falls back into his nap times once we are home.

Best Wishes and Happy Easter
