Please help - routine has been busted!?
« on: April 07, 2006, 03:46:52 am »
How old is your child?
9+ weeks

What’s his/her daily routine?
4 hours EASY routine - sort of  ::)

Breastfed, on one side only for about 20 minutes, but recently has occasionally decided he's still hungry and then takes about 5-10 minutes on the other side.

What’s your LO like when waking at night? How long is he/she up? just a couple of minutes, we do a nappy change & then a feed

When you go to him/her is she fussing or crying? Or is it a mantra cry? hungry cry

What do you do for A time and how long is it? playing & chatting

Are there developmental issues such as teething or milestones? Not as far as I know

Have you introduced cereal? Why, how much, and how many times a day? No.

Do they have a prop? If so what is it? Dummy, but he doesn't depend on it too much. He's found his fist the last few days.
Do they have a lovie? No

DS is a "touchy" baby (from the quiz) with about 1/3 of the questions being "textbook".

He wakes up at 7am, I feed him, we play wide-awake chats, a few minutes in the playgym, but by about 9am he overloads so we sssh-pat, and he settles to sleep for about 45 minutes. If I try and settle him earlier he just keeps his eyes open.

10am, a nappy change then he's fed a bottle of EBM by the nanny (in preparation for me going back to work in a few weeks time). A bit of playing (chatting, staring at mobile) and then he's asleep again at around 11-11:30 for 45 minutes, then he wakes up, I shh-pat and then another 45 minutes.

1pm, another nappy change and then a feed. Sometimes he will then fall asleep and stay asleep until 4pm, othertimes he's wide awake.

4pm, another nappy change and a feed. Then he plays. At 5:45pm we go for a walk outside (I live in the tropics so it's the only time the weather is cool enough!) in his pram. At 6:45pm he has a bath with daddy, is changed, feeds at 7pm and then goes to sleep.

I have to wake him for his DF at 10pm with a nappy change otherwise he wont be awake enough to latch, and he is really not very hungry. We tried a bottle for the DF but he wouldnt take any of it, and in fact once had a screaming hissy fit in refusal!

But this is then where we are veering off.... previously he would wake at around 2-3am for a feed, and then again at between 6-7am for a feed. That was great :D

The last few days though he has woken almost back on 12:40am, and then at 3am, and then at 5am, and then at 7am.

What is going on?! Will this regular night time waking continue?

I think your lo might be a bit overtired. I can't remember exactly but I'm sure my DS's A time was only about 1 hour to maybe 1.25 hours at that age. The other thing is that at 9 weeks BFing I think a 3 hour EASY would be more appropriate. 4 hour EASY is for about 4 months. That way you could make sure your lo was getting enough cals in the daytime so shouldn't be hungry in the night, although at 9 weeks you would expect to do at least one night feeding. My guess is that the wakings can't all be hunger so decide which ones you are going to feed at (3 hours from last one) and just try to settle for the others.

thanks for replying brightside :)

one thing - I thought that a 7-10-1-4-7-10 was a 3 hour EASY? I made a typo on my routine thingy - should have written 3 hours EASY (sorry).

I hadnt considered he might be overtired and that is affecting his sleep.... good point, although the little tike seems to want to stay awake even when he is tired  ::)
