you could try the df - although if it doesn't work after a week i would def drop it again. generally lo's need to drop it at about 7 months so it may not be worth it to you starting and then having to wean so soon - but it's your choice just remember lo needs to stay asleep for it to be successful!

we did the 4 hr routine yesterday had great naps but also had shots yesterday. he did keep feeding every 4hrs though right through the nite 11pm 3am and 7am so not bad he did wake at 5am and i was able to get him back to sleep right away without any problem. i read your post on weaning the nite feeds and will start tonite should i consider the 11pm one as well, will he learn to go the 11hrs or will this have him waking up earlier.

Hi!  I'm kind of confused- someone else posted their routine- that wasn't me!  Anyway, my routine goes something like this:
5:30 awake
6:15 bottle
Activity
7:30 nap (could be anywhere from 40 min. to an hour)
breakfast of veggies or fruit
Activity
10:15 bottle
10:30 nap (again, could be 30 min. could be 90 min.- very unpredictable naps)
Activity
1:30 Nap
2:15 bottle
Activity
Nap 3:30-4:00
Activity
5:00 cereal
6:00 bath
6:30-7:00 stories, bottle, bed

I'm starting to think that he can have more than 2 hours of awake time, which is what I've been doing up to this point.  Also, the night feeding is not a dream feed. It's just when he wakes up.  Lately, it's been about midnight- before that though it wasn't til around 2:30.
Thanks for the help!

ashtonsmummy - i would keep the df for now (it's really your choice..) if it has been working. go for the actual night feedings and then work on weaning the df if you still desire to do so. good luck with it!

gail b - i def think your lo should be down to only two naps/day as of now. at about 6-8 months lo's drop the catnap and it seems your lo is getting 4 naps?!

def lo is able to do more than 2hrs of A time - more like 2.75 - 3hrs Atime (the shortest A time in the morning though). that is probably why you aren't getting good naps b/c lo isn't tired enough. could also be the reason for the wakings/ early wakings as lo is catching up for the lost sleep early in the morning when you give that nap so soon. the other wakings could have to do with lo not getting 'proper' rest during the day - it seems lo isn't getting much naptime past the first sleep cycle..start stretching A time slowly and every few days do it again another 15 min or so or whatever lo can handle without becoming overtired as he is used to going to sleep so soon and not having to stay up longer so he will show tired signs early when reg nap times were. make sure you do low key activities during the stretch before naptime reading, looking out a window..etc..you may want to check out the easy board for some good routines to take a look at for a lo this age - may give you an idea of what your goal is and what direction you want to be headed in...good luck...and i def think that this effort will make your troubles minimal.

Hi there, this post is for Gail B in response to this post:
Hi there! Well my little Trent is now almost 7 mo., and I am still having the same issues. What you said about moving the day forward made total sense, but I just can't get it to carry over to sleeping later the following morning. He winds up taking a very early nap which I recognize is really just finishing the nighttime sleep.

At night, his wake-ups are so erratic. Some nights he only wakes up once and then not until 5 or 5:30 and other night he wakes up twice or more. I know it's not due to hunger- I only feed him once during the night and he only takes two ounces. Should I just cut this feeding out entirely? When he wakes at night, I try not to go in if he has just the mantra cry/fussing, but it usually escalates quickly, and then I go in.

How can I get him to sleep through the night? How can I get him to sleep later in the morning?
Help!

Gail

Gail - have you thought about removing the Paci? Earlier in your thread you said you had to go to him to pop the paci back in. Could this be a prop? Just a thought. HTH.
