Is that about right?
« on: April 08, 2006, 19:02:06 pm »
My DS is nearly seven months and I waited 6 months and one day for the introduction of solids. He ate a whole jar immediately and I didn't need to introduce him, he introduced himself to them. Anyway, after eating the whole meal he wasn't hungry for a bottle for ages so I replaced a feed with two jars... He used to get 4 milk feeds a day (8,12,4,6), now he gets three milk feeds and two solids...

Does that look right (I mean nutritionally)

7am bottle (8oz)
10.30 solids (one jar of fruit or veg, sometimes with chicken, usually homemade)
01.30 bottle (8oz)
04.30 solids (one jar)
06.30 bottle (10oz)

???

He seems to be happy with it, he is a very hungry boy and he seems to be a bit too hungry for the night-time bottle, so hungry that there was no night-time routines the past days... He even wanted more after 10oz and we made him another 4 which he drank as well...

Any ideas?

That is a total of 26ozs which is fine just don't let the milk intake drop any further. You can also get a few more ozs into him when you introduce breakfast and put it in his cereal.

Now there is a question... Where do I get breakfast cereal that doesn't include dairy? I want to add formula milk (advice from the ped) and not use the ones that already have milk in them (the just add water ones)...

Well, here the cereal says: "Just add water" and it has skimmed milk in it which he is not allowed due to prevention of asthma...

Scott's Maw,
You can give him plain baby rice, or make your own cereal - have you looked at http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com?

Baby rice kind of blocks him up, we used to put baby rice in his formula at night, but we had to stop that...

What about the good old porridge?

Thx for the link, I'll have a wee look.

Heinz do porridge that you mix with formula - in their 4 month organic range. (The orange box)
I buy that for William even though he is much older - and he loves it.

Failing that I am soon going to be using ready brek as its just the same and much cheaper in the long run. You can still mix that with formula.

I also crunch up a couple of weetabix and mix that with formula - thats William's current favourite.

Scott's Maw - that was a class quote  ;D ;D

Anyway - I give Calum Readybreak and 2 small icecibes of fruit, have to say he doesn't like it too thick so I only add 1.5 level tablesppon of readybreak with the fruitcubes and 0.5 - 1oz of formula. I have also tried him on weetabix - I think the jurys still out on that one.  Calum never like the Heinz baby porridge and I thought it was really sweet.  ???

Not sure, it was my HV who said he could have them. The couple of times I have given weetabix its been half, but I find that still too much after it swells up.

Our ped is supercautious with Scotty because his dad and his dad's wee brother and sister have asthma, hayfever and eczema and loads of allergies...

So we can't give him ANY dairy, not even the ones from the jars, can't touch hairy animals, can't have flowers in the house, can't ever get him into smokey rooms (wouldn't do that anyway), can't use softener, can't use latex teats and dummies, and blablabla...

So I'm not sure about wheetabix  :-\
