giving df bottle with lo in crib?
« on: April 09, 2006, 02:26:22 am »
Hello!!!!
I have heard that giving your LO a bottle while he is lying in his crib can cause ear infections due to the pooling of milk in the mouth.
Is this true and if so, is it low on the risk scale or high?

Yes it is true, not sure on the risk factor I afraid  :-\
Better to check with your doctor.

We used to do the df in the crib.  DH would just prop up dd2's head slightly so that she wasn't laying flat.  If you're short (like me) there's no way you can do that... unless you get a stool  :)

I've heard about the ear infections too but I am not sure how risky it is.  There is a big ad campaign on tv right now not to give a bottle to baby in bed as it can eventually rot his/her teeth.  Not sure if yours has teeth or not but I wouldn't want to get in the habit before the teeth come anyhow.  Just my two cents ;)

I take Bram out of the crib to do the df.  Then when he is done I hold him for about 5-10 more minutes and put him back in, it has never been an issue and he doesn't wake up.

i give the DF to DS in his crib, but he does use a wegde with a 30° angle to sleep, so he is not laying flat on the crib. But this has never given us any problems though.
