Swim Suits
« on: April 11, 2006, 18:57:09 pm »
Hi

When DS was younger, he had one of those suits that had the inflatable panels in it.  He wasn't that keen so I took the inflatable bits out and just used the suits.  Well we've just got back into swimming after numerous colds (him and me) and like everything else in life his attitude is 'Johno do it'.  So, I've looked to see what suits they do in his size and I can't seem to get an inflatable one any more, only like the ones in the link below.  Does anyone have one and can you tell me if they can float on their own in them.  Obviously I'm not going to leave him alone but what I'm after is when he says he doesn't want to be held, I want to be able to let go and encourage him to swim on his own.  I don't want to let go and him drop like a stone to the bottom!

just had a look for you and this is the description .

These brightly coloured neoprene swim jackets will help your child feel more confident in and around the water
Each jacket features 8 removable foam floats which can be removed as required to adjust buoyancy.   they are a bit pricey though £26.99

What about one of these: http://www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk/cgibin/priamlnk.cgi?CNO=1&MP=ITM^GIN200&CAT=SSS61&SPCAT=IB&CODE=A8416&TYPE=C&SHOP=BBC

Ruby was terrible, never wanted to be held, but not wanting to be put down either! She didn't like armbands and so we got her a small rubber ring, and she loves it, and now she is super-confident and all but swimming by herself in it.
Clair - Proud Lesbian Mama to:

*Ruby - spirited angel
*Red - touchy angel
*Rory - all-round angel
*Raphael - blessed with another angel??

Clair - Johno is like that with armbands too so I think I will try a ring and see how he goes.

I think for holidays, I'll try one of those suits as well as the ring because we've got a pool where we are staying so it would be a good opportunity to get him really confident in the water.  I've found they have them in elc too and I've got a 20% off voucher so that makes that a bit cheaper.
