How do you decide when to transition?
« on: April 12, 2006, 12:14:26 pm »
Hi,

My DS has been on 3 hour easy for a month now.  He's just 3 months old.  Now that he's taking longer naps, he seems to be edging towards a 3.5 hour EASY cycle.

How do you decide whether to keep them on 3 hour or move towards 4 hour?  I'm assuming that I just go on cues and see what DS does naturally.

Thanks,

Mama

Mama, you're exactly right.  You really have to watch him and let him guide you.  I transitioned when my dd started staying awake longer and then napping longer.  One day she just slept right past a feeding, and I let her  ;), and we never looked back.  We switched the feeding times around a bit and came to a 4hrly routine.  You can switch it around as you need to suit your lo, and you can have variable feeding intervals troughout the day.  As he continues to get older, you'll still need to guide him, but he'll also start giving you some directions  ;D.
