Is honey in graham crackers ok??
« on: April 12, 2006, 20:25:33 pm »
I know babies aren't supposed to eat honey because of the risk of developing botulism...  Elise ate a honey graham cracker at my MIL's house yesterday - is this ok?  Does anyone know if it's just straight honey that's the problem or honey in other foods too?

TIA for any info!!

My understanding is honey in foods too.  I don't think I'd panic about one cracker, but I would not want to repeat it.   :)

I don't think it should be a problem.  Call your ped. if you are worried, and tell grandma to hold off for one more month  ;D

I'm with Jenn, I've read that graham crackers should be unsweetened, no honey. But if it was just one I wouldn't worry but wouldn't give one of those again either.

Thanks everyone for the responses!  I'll continue feeding her the plain ones at home & let MIL know to hold off on the ones with honey for awhile - just in case....  ;)

Because the food doesn't get hot enough to boil when you bake it, honey even when baked in something still isn't safe, which is kind of a pain in the butt.  Have you ever noticed how hard it is to find bread and even tortillas without honey in the recipe.  That said, I've noticed your daughter is about my son's age, and I think it's funny that I'm waiting for that magiic one year birthday to feed him these foods.  Will his system suddenly grow up that night while he sleeps.  If so, I certainly hope it doesn't disturb his slumber. ;D
