How to dress a wiggle worm
« on: April 16, 2006, 23:39:06 pm »
HELP!!!!!!!!!  DD has decided she is waaaay to busy to stay put long enough to have her diaper changed or to get dressed.  She flips onto her tummy and trys to scoot away.  Short of 4 point restraints (JK!!) how do I do this without going bonkers?

My dd attempts to do the same thing. I will give her a different toy to hold each time I change her. Ususally it keeps her attention for a bit longer. She is also younger though...not sure if it would amuse a 9 month old as much :-\

How about a musical toy?? I always use on for my dd.  It get's her attention and forgets about moving around for a bit.
Blessed beyond measure.

Playing peek-a-boo works really well for us, I just throw whatever I have handy -- towel, onesie, etc over her face and she pulls it off and laughs.  I also hand her lots of things to hold for me while I change her.  Really I only worry about her holding still (more or less LOL) while I put her diaper on, I let her crawl around, sit, stand, etc while I put the rest of her clothes on as it's just too hard to fight the battle for the whole time I need to dress her.  Just the fun of them getting older!

I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one!  It's amazing how fast he can flip over....right when I'm trying to put the diaper cream on, too, so it gets all over both of us!  I like the peek-a-boo idea, thanks!

I actually put her diaper on backwards today because it was faster.  Kinda freaked out daycare, dh forgot to tell them.   ::)  No leaks though.  Dressing took place with her bouncing up and down.  Great, now she'll be walking?    :P

DS is doing exactly the same thing - Except if I try to keep him still to change his nappy - He throws a temper tantrum and screams.

It is especially difficult with a dirty nappy - Sorry if TMI.

I really do not know how to keep him still - Nothing keeps his attention for long enough - He has just learnt to crawl so just wants to move around.

Don't even get me started on getting him dressed .........

Jenn - it's easier when they're standing because it's really easy to put a shirt/onesie on a standing child -- plus you just put their pants around thier feet and it's simple to pull them up when they're standing up.  I assume at some point they actually learn to hold still long enough to have you put their clothes on (or they learn to do it themselves)....still waiting here though  ;)

True, Erin, but at this point I need one hand to hold her up, two to pull the clothes on.  Now I know what I want for Mother's Day.  A third arm!!!    ;D  She just figured crawling out this week, supported standing is a bit off yet.  Which may be a good thing, then comes walking.  And sure as God made little green apples, I'll be in the middle of dressing her and she will try to walk off.  Splat!!!   ::)  Good thing they are so darn cute!!
