Quick question...
« on: April 18, 2006, 14:20:49 pm »
How long does it take for babies to learn to go through into their second 45 minutes of nap time once you have succeeded in getting them to do it with your help?  After two weeks, I can now get DS into his second part with about 10 minutes of placing my hand on his chest (no pat/shush usually) but wondered when I'm likely to be able to leave him to go through on his own.

Thanks!

Mama

Congratulations on getting him to go into the next sleep cycle!  ;D I'd try to leave him for one nap and see what happens. If he doesn't do it on his own, continue with your hand for a couple more naps, then leave him again. You need to keep letting him try on his own or your hand might become a prop.

Thanks for your reply  :)

I'll give that a try...it has become so much easier to settle him into his second cycle so quickly that I'm hoping it won't take too long.

That said, I think we're heading into teething territory  ::)

Thanks

I agree with Cath - go for it and see what happens ;)

It might be an idea to stay in the room though, so you can watch him and jump in to help if there does seem to be a problem before it escalates into a full-blown wake up. Also, if it works, you get to watch the fruits of all your hard work ;)

:P to those horrid teeth, I hope it's not too traumatic for him
Caroline :)

I am having similar problems with my 11 week old---I had been doing ssh-patt but was completely frustrated b/c it would take anywhere from 30-40min to get him back to sleep. I also had been picking him up and doing it on  my shoulder when he cried---like the book says to do-----but then he learned to cry more.  Anyway, I am never completely sure when to stop ssh-patting b/c he settles and then awakens every 10 min-----even though I have continued with it.  Maybe I am doing it too long?
This morning, I saw some light at the end of the tunnel----he slept for 30min---woke up --moved around in his crib a bit and then went back to sleep----for another 45min. Imagine my surprise.
