Protein for 9 month old
« on: April 19, 2006, 13:39:47 pm »
A friend suggested that protein is very important the brain development of los and now I'm very stressed about my los protein intake.

He's still bfing twice a day and receiving formula twice a day and I guess I figured he'd be receiving all the protein he needed from that.

Can someone please tell me how to meet the recommended amount in a day?  How much yogurt, egg yolks, lentils, cottage cheese, etc does he need daily?  (We don't do meat yet)  Or does he receive what he needs from regular veg, fruit and his milk.

Thanks in advance!

Jodie

I have seen websites that list all protein foods and their protein content;
http://www.heartspring.net/list_of_high_protein_foods.html
http://www.vegsoc.org/info/protein.html   - also includes Reference Nutrient Intakes for Protein per age

Hope this is what you where looking for  :-\ it also includes protein amounts a breastfeeding mum should have.

Hi Lauren,

Thanks for those links.  Mighty mighty helpful.

I also learned that there is 1.6g of protein in 100g of breastmilk.  And from ages 9 - 12 months they should get 14.9g a day and from 1 - 3 years old they should get 14.5g a day.  Also, another site said formula had double the amount of protein then breastmilk.  So I would think that my son is getting 3 g from bm and 6 g from formula.

I am certain he would get the other 6g from the foods I'm serving him.

Thank you again, just thought I would share what I learned.
