SItting up in crib
« on: April 19, 2006, 14:58:35 pm »
Help!  My daughter is 14 months old.  She has always been a good sleeper and we could put in her bed awake and she would fall asleep.  She just figured out on Sunday that she can sit up in her crib (she has been doing this outside of the crib for a while but somehow just figured it out in the crib - kids are funny!).  The problem is, she cannot lay down when she is ready to sleep.   Again, she can do this outside of the crib but for some reason can not do in her crib.  Putting her down for naps/bedtime have been a nightmare the past few days.  She will not lay down - you basically have wait until she is so exhausted and practically sleeping sitting up to get her laying down.  She was always good about taking naps (2 a day) but now she is barely taking any.  This was an overnight change but it is killing us!  Help!

I can't help, except that my 8 month old has been standing up in her cot for the past few weeks - at all hours, including regularly between midnight and 6am, so I sympathise in having to spend hours trying to get an upright baby to lie down.

Hi, yes when they reach different milestones it can cause problems with sleep. I think it would be good to do some play in her cot during the daytime and get her to practice standing to sitting. In the mean time, you will just have to go in to her and lay her down, repeatedly if necessary, reasurring her that she is ok and needs to sleep. It should be just a phase and things will return to usual soon. Good luck.

Thank you for the help.  So far this week, she has improved a bit but she still has times she just does not want to sleep (like this afternoon).  It is good to know others have gone through the same thing.
