Dream Feed Question (Bottle Fed)
« on: April 20, 2006, 23:24:20 pm »
Hi,

I'm new here and still reading the Baby Whisperer book.  I hope to implement EASY later this month when my son is 15 weeks old.  My question is about dream feed, I understand what it is and I wanted to try it last night around 11pm after his 7:30pm feed but my son woke up early and was hungry.  So I fed him at 10pm.  If say he wakes up before the dream feed time, do i attempt to do the dream feed earlier (before he wakes up)?  Or do I still wait until 10pm and 11pm to dream feed?
Also, what do you if when you dream feed, he doesn't eat?  Should I just put him back in bed and wait until he wakes up to eat?

Thanks
Melodie

I unfortunately cannot give you much advice as i am just implementing the cluster feed and dream feed myself, but i would like to post some additional questions...I have a 7 week old and started this routine monday night.  monday night it worked like a charm.  A true dream feed and dd slept until almost 5 instead of 3 or 3:30.  But Tues, and Wed dd was pretty much awake during dream feed and only slept until her typical 3:30.  I know it will take sometime but i'm wondering if there is anything else i should be doing or considering.

Hi, I've been working on the dream feed, too.  Try reading the strand near the beginning of this bottle feeding forum, there is lots of good info there.  From what I recall, I don't think it matters how much your lo takes.  My son takes anywhere from 4oz-6.5oz, depends on his mood, I guess (lol!).  If your lo wakes, say at 10, consider that the df, since you should do it anywhere between 10-11.  If they wake up, there's not much you can do but try to get them back to sleep - my lo, in the 6 days I've been successful with it, has woken up 3 times.  If they aren't taking it, there are tips in the strand I mentioned but the two I use are turning the nipple a little in his mouth and gently stroking his cheek a few times.  If they wake up at their old wake time, you can use wake to sleep to help them sleep through it (is explained in strand, too) - my lo wakes between 1-2 because that was when he used to eat before the df was started with him.  It is a habit - at first it didn't bother us because we could get him back to sleep in 5-15 min.  Last night it took over an hour so we are going to try wake to sleep tonight!  Hope this info helps!  BTW, my lo is 15 weeks old, too and is responding very well to EASY!

Thanks for the info.
I also think my lo is waking up out of habit between 1-2am as that is his usual time to eat.  Sometimes he will eat a full bottle or just 1oz and sometimes he just wants his diaper change.  I never know what he wants until he wakes up.  Hopefully, when the dreamfeed he will sleep longer or through the night.
