How many feeds a day?
« on: April 21, 2006, 14:13:34 pm »
Hi,

After all the pieces of advice by TH I've read so far I'd just like to clarify one thing. Are we heading for 4 meals a day? - with a 'perfect' child of course.
I'm concerned with a 5 month old EBF lo.
That's what I got from my calculation: around 12 hrs night sleep 7-7, meals every 4 hrs:7,11,3 and 7 (provided we manage to exclude DF).
I'd just like to confirm what I understood since it seems a bit strange for me. As far as I know, and I'm no expert as that is my first child, even 6-8yrs old children get at least 5 meals a day.
So did I misunderstand anything or is that really what we want?

Micky

Yes, chnaging to 4hr EASY means dropping a day feed.

That's what I got from my calculation: around 12 hrs night sleep 7-7, meals every 4 hrs:7,11,3 and 7 (provided we manage to exclude DF).

That sounds perfect  :)

Micky, once your child starts eating table foods and is weaned, he will typically eat 3 meals a day just as you do, with snacks in between.  But for now, regular milk (bmilk or formula) feeds are all he needs.
