Refusing solids after 6 mos of good eating
« on: April 21, 2006, 15:28:47 pm »
Hi! FOA-just to let you all know that i really appreciate your support and advice. So far, all has worked very wel for my lo. Madelaine is 7.5 mos old and eating solids for 6 weeks and doing really well. We were cruising along fine and have come to an abrupt stop. She was eating three meals a day-no problems. Starting on some chewing techniques and that was going well too. for the past 3 days, she will hardly eat at all. Maybe a few tsp with each meal. I've tried changing it up and switching to new stuff. She has had her two bottom teeth for over a month now and I wonder if she could be teething? There is no fever or anything other than she has not been sleeping very well during naps in the daytime. night is Okay but a bit harder to get down. my lo is textbook-angel. Any suggestions? Could she be teething? Of note, she seems to like having her cookies but is blanching at the spoon. Loves sweet potatoes and is refusing them. HELP :) ;D

I would think it probably is teething, as when Ella was teething with her first two teeth a few weeks ago the only indication I had was she was eating much less at each meal. Her sleep was fine, but I worried about her food intake, which increased again after her teeth broke through. Ella is also an angel-textbook baby and they are just so great about teething.

Sounds like teeth to me. Generally if you give it a few days, it'll sort itself out. If she likes cookies, she might be ready to try some healthier finger foods like cheerios, soft fruit or veggie chunks, or toast. Even if all she'll eat is cookies, I'd be cautious how many you give her. It's often tempting to offer sweets just so they'll eat SOMETHING, but it's not always the best idea in the long run. Keep us posted!

I am going through the same thing at the moment with my DD. She has always loved her food but has been very fussy especially at dinner time. She just got her first tooth and no.2 is also very close so i definatly think it could be teething.

Hi there!  My LO very abruptly stopped taking anything from a spoon about six weeks after we started solids.  I thought perhaps she was not enjoying my food choices for her, but then she was also refusing things she loved.  I tried her with finger foods and she's never looked back.  She loves to be independant and feed herself, and she'll eat just about anything.  The only thing she'll let me feed her is cottage cheese, I guess because she can't shovel the stuff in fast enough herself!  I started her on solids at six months and she was really ready for it, so I think she just went through the pureed food stage faster because of that.   My LO is textbook/angel too, so maybe it's the baby type!

Good luck!

I love this place! LOL you are all great. I think the finger food thing may be right in a way. (i was only giving her one cookie a day but broke it into two) She went back to eating yesterday.YAY. I can relax again till the next time. No teeth through but maybe soon. I was trying to think back and perhaps this is what she did last time. My LO loves cottage cheese too, and i bought some this weekend and some yogurt with bits of lumpy. I am deathly afraid of choking..very nervous about finger foods. I will read on and get more advice! In the interim, i will start adding some in with lunch and dinner from our plate because she seems to like it when i give her something of mine. In any case, thanks for the posts..helped a lot. I'm calmer now :) :P
