help with starting rice cereal

MY lo is 4 months now and I want to start her on some cereal.   when and how often should I do this?  What time of day and when in her schedule should I start to implement this?  Thank you!!

the only problem with starting solids early is that there digestive system is immature , it could lead to tummy aches and discomfort . we started on baby rice but i would never start with this again as it is very constipating . the first meal we started with was lunch, we started at 5.5 months but next time i will wait till 6 months+ .

i would go with your DR ! he/she has a better idea about your child's health than i do , work with your DR. many mums on her have started solids early for many different reasons , maybe they can offer advice .
  in my experience we were told to introduce solids early as Ryan was very hungry , it turned out that Ryan was gulping his feeds to soothe his throat due to reflux , it wasn't that he was very hungry ! after starting solids , his reflux was no better and we had the extra problem of constipation .
  i don't know what the reasons are that you are starting solids early but i would discuss these issues with you DR

Why rice? It doesn't really work for hunger (my experience) and it is VERY constipating. I find oats much better but I would only start solids at 6 months. If there isn't a medical necessity to start it (like reflux) I would maybe get a second opinion? The WHO advises nothing but milk until the age of 6 months...

in my experience with reflux , starting solids didn't make a difference . we still have a refluxer at 2.5yrs it has only got better with meds and time

I am going to ask my doc if she thinks waiting is fine too.  i am in no rush, but they recommend starting rice at 4 months.  first time mom, so i figured i should follow all the guidelines.  i appreciate the help.  i will read those posts.

6 months is the guideline here (UK and Germany) but Hipp, Nestle, Cow and Gate and Co want to make us believe that 4 months is necessary. I know that there are a few babies who NEED solids before 6 months, but most are happy is just the milk changes. For breastfed babies the milk becomes kind of thicker, for bottlefed babies you can buy hungrier baby milk...

if you don't mind, can you share how you prepare the brown rice?  i just started my lo on rice cereal and i starting to get freaked out by all the constipation talk!  i'm considering going to oatmel after the 4 days - but the brown rice sounds good too....how do you make it...i'm looking in my super baby food book, but am multi tasking so am having a hard time finding...... :-\
