Routine
« on: April 23, 2006, 13:29:33 pm »
Have any of you read the plan for introducing solids into the EASY routine in the toddler book?  It goes something like this;

7am bf/bottle
9am breakfast followed by bf/bottle
11am bf/bottle
1pm lunch followed by bf/bottle
4pm dinner followed by bf/bottle
8pm bf/bottle

Is anybody following a routine similar to this and how are you finding it works?  Does your LO take much of a bf/bottle immediately after solids?

Right.....

>>>just taken a look, the way I read it is that the chart is for mums starting out on the basic puree weaning process. I notice it only goes up to 31weeks (7months). We are now pasted that stage....

Some days I don't feel like we have a routine to change!

I've just read the feeding 101 in the BW Solves All Your Problems and it says to give food first and then the bottle or 10 minutes on the breast and the typical routine is;

7 liquid
8.30 solids (I guess followed by the 10 minutes or bottle?!)
11 liquid
12.30 solids
3 liquid
5.30 solids
7.30 liquid

I'm rather confused - you're right Lauren it seems to be alot of milk feeds.  I read far too much I think!

I read in the other book that Tracy recommends pears as a first food for the nutritional value and because they're easy to digest.  We didn't bother with baby rice (is that the same thing as cereal?!) but then again we didn't bother with purees either!

We just started solids (rice cereal) on Sat. and I too am confused about the routine and am wondering where the S of EASY is supposed to fit in.  Do you do it after the 8:30 solids?  My lo has a hard time making to 8:30 in the first place before wanting a nap.  How do your lo's naps fall into the solids routine?

After the first feed of the day, it's an hour maximum.  For the rest of the day, we're really working to get to 2 hours.  He usually ends up having A time after his nap for this reason.  Any suggestions on how to incorporate solids into short A times?

Okay, here's our "routine" prior to the addition of solids 3 days ago:

6:45 a.m. BF
7-7:45 A
7:45-9:15 S
9:15-10:30 A
10:30 BF
10:45-11:15 A
11:15-1:15 S
1:15-2:15 A
2:15 BF
2:30-4 A
4-5 S
5-6 A
6 BF, bath, story
6:45 bed
10:30 DF and no night wake ups

In the past to try and get him on EASY instead of EASA, I've tried to stretch his pre-sleeping A, but that has resulted in a very cranky baby who does not go to sleep or stay asleep well.  As you can see, he sleeps a lot, but it seems like he's wanting to cut out the afternoon catnap the last few days.  He's had solids after his first nap these first few attempts and that has worked just fine until this morning when he woke up after just 20 minutes and was clearly hungry so I gave him solids after I let him try to go back to sleep on his own for awhile and he couldn't eat the cereal fast enough and then he slept for another hour and woke up in time for his next BF at 10:45, which was 4 hours from his first BF of the day, which is ideal.  Should I gradually work on keeping him up longer in the a.m. and give him cereal before his nap?  Sorry if this is confusing.   :)
