my dd is 4 mo and i only feed her once a night, but she was waking up twice up until last week.
she gets a d/f at 10 or 10.30pm and then she would wake up around 1-1.30am am and in the 'olden days' i'd have fed her! lol, but now i shush her gently back to sleep. then she'll wake up anytime between 3am and 4am and i'll feed her then.
now she just wakes up once a night (still usually between 3 or 4am).
we've just moved to 3.5hr easy and hope to move to 4hr next week (she was 3 weeks early so is still a little bit behind with the length of her activity time). i found that this helped her night wakings. i always b/f her for 30 minutes at each feed now. obviously she doesn't feed constantly for the whole time but she likes to have a rest and then go back to nursing. before i'd have put her down to play if there was a 5 minute pause in her feeding.
i still only feed her on one side, but then at bed time she usually has her normal feed at 5.30 and then some activity and her bath is at about 6.30pm, then i used to let her nurse off the same boob again before bed. now i give her the other breast and let her have a proper feed before i put her into her cot. i always make sure she has a good wind and about 10 minutes before i put her down so she doesn't associate the feed too much with sleep
anyway, that's what's working for us just now, but don't be too hard on your lo if they wake up more than once. try not to compare them with other babies. they are unique!
