can't get him to take enough milk - having some food too
« on: April 24, 2006, 10:45:01 am »
Hello all,

Need some advice.  My son is 6 mths and currently has teh following

7am 4 oz milk
8.30 am porridge and cube of apple (using 1 1/2 oz of his milk)
11.00 4 1/2 oz milk and 4 cubes of veg
3.00 milk around 6 oz if lucky
6.00 Milk around 5/6 oz if lucky plus 2 cubes of fruit
11pm dream feed 5 oz

We are curenttly winding down the dream feed as we think he takes it out of habit.

he has never been a morning eater but we have been weaning for around 1 1/2 months and I know his milk intake will go down but some days he takes well under 20 oz.  Really worried he is not getting enough.  every feed becomes a struggle.

He has a cold at the minute but this happened before he had a cold.

Any ideas on how to increase milk?  I never give solids until he really will not take any more milk....

Have you tried cutting back on his solids?

Why is that not enough milk? By my calculations, he's getting about 28 ounces, which is totally fine at his age. At his age, my doctor actually recommends though two solids meals and 24-32 ounces. So instead of a lunch solid meal, we give our DD two bottles - one around 11 or 11:30 (usually about 6 ounces) and one around 1 or 1:30 - usually about 4-5 ounces. You may also find him taking more at each bottle when you do drop the DF.

Total agree with the two responses you will find when you drop the dreamfeed his milk intake during the day will increase.
