Help implementing EASY with 7-week old?
« on: April 24, 2006, 16:22:08 pm »
My daughter is 7 weeks old today, and we just started to implement the EASY routine. Our biggest challenges are: 1) keeping her awake for activity time during the day (so that she'll sleep at night) 2) keeping her awake to eat - she constantly falls alseep at the breast and sometimes cannot be woken up no matter what I try!

Our schedule so far today:
8:40am Eat
8:55 Activity (change diaper, get dressed etc)
Yawned 2x by 9:15, so put her down for nap, comforted her (patting/sh'ing)
9:50 Nap
11:40 I woke her up to Eat
Changed diaper, but will not stay awake for activity time at all
12:00 Nap

What can I do to help her stay awake to get her on this EASY schedule? I worry that with her sleeping so much during the day, she won't sleep at night (a problem we've been having for the past few weeks). Also, she's only eating about 10-15 minutes at each feeding (she's never eaten for very long periods, but at one point was up to 20-25 minutes per feeding). She is gaining weight well, though.

Any help on implementing the EASY plan would be truly appreciated!

hi in the baby whisperer book tracey says to gently rub your baby's palm with your thumb if they are getting sleepy whilst feeding i do this with my baby and it works there are also a couple more ideas in the book you could try them if that doesnt work.
hope that helps a little

Hmm, unfortunately none of the suggestions (walking the plank, rubbing her palm) worked! I'm not sure WHAT to do to wake her up (nicely).

Does she wake if you break the latch and sit her up?  I would keep her off until she opened her eyes.  Or, try to feed in a bright room with noise.
