Fussy toddler eating habits
« on: April 28, 2006, 00:40:53 am »
Bella is just about 14 months and she throws tantrums when she is ready to eat, and when i get her her food, she will eat a few pieces and throw the rest on the floor >:(...she acts like she is starving and then the dog usually ends up eating it!  I find that she really wants to feed herself and i only really spoonfeed her stuff like applesauce, spagetti o's, stuff like that.  Is this normal eating behavior?  I can only assume it is and hoping it will pass.

I hope it's just a normal phase, cuz my 13 mos old recently started to get fussy during some meals (usually dinner) even if we offer her foods she used to love to eat. She may take one or two bites, then refuse the rest, crying with big tears as if we were forcing the world's most disgusting foods down her throat...

Hi,

completley normal behavoiur at this age, my Dd went throught he exact same phase and luckily it didn't last long ::)

At this age they start to get independant and want to do everything themselves, if she is keen to feed herself i would perhaps give her finger foods that she can pick up and eat easily and progress from there.  i also put a plastic food mat under my dd highchair to catch all that messy food she dropped :o i know when our 'super eaters' all of a sudden seem to be eating less we tend to panic that they are not eating enough but infact toddlers eat the amount that they want to and you would be surprsied on how many calories they can survive on.

like i said it is a phase they go through and soon she will be eating you out of house and home again :) :)

hey there -

just wanted to weigh in on the fussy/pciky eating thing.  i was chatting with some moms on this board a while back about a DVD that focuses on getting kids to eat more things and try new foods, and i have to say it has really been helping my kids.  i have two toddlers (1 and 1/2 and 3 yrs old) and i have to say that they have both tried new foods since i have been showing them the tinyguides DVD.  just thought it might help other moms - the company is called tinyguides.  i bought it at amazon.com but my friend told me that they are also selling at their site now.  tinyguides.com.  anyway, good luck!  btw - anyone got a good recipe for tasty veggie muffins (like carrot or zuccini??)

thanks!!!
