Carmela's mom: Oh man, I remember those days. You just want to run away from home!! I just wanted to say that you might want to investigate the milk angle a little bit. Owen is lactose sensitive (I don't think he's totally lactose intolerant), and when we put him on whole milk it was a disaster for nighttime sleep.  It took about 3 days being on 4 oz/bottle before we noticed the problem. But, if it is milk, you should see a change in stool as well. Owen never got a rash, but he did have diarrhea type poos. If the pooing is the same, then I'm guessing it's either OT'd or teeth (or both!). When Owen is teething he needs more sleep. At this age, their sleep cues are impossible to read. Most don't have any b/c they are too busy having fun and exploring their world! The PP have good advice on what to do about OT.

His poop is actually a lot looser the last two days BUT he always has diarrhea type poop when cutting a tooth -- always!  He also has a 101.2 fever which he also always has when teething?  I really can't tell!

Well we put him to bed at 7:30 tonight.  He has been crying since.  My DH is up there with him, but he just won't calm down :(  I don't know if its seperation anxiety or what (he stops when DH is there, starts the second he left, annd stops when he goes back in!).  If I have another night like the past two, we're going to the doc in the morning to get this kid checked out for an ear infection!

So sorry things aren't going good for you either.  I hate this part of parenting.  It just seems so simple to me.  Tired, sleep.  Not tired, don't sleep HAHA!  Joey was put in his crib at 7:30.  He cried until 8:00 and didn't do too bad last night (woke up 3 times, fussed, went back to sleep) but woke up at 5 am :(  I'm going to call his ped this morning.  I think he may have an ear infection!

Hi ladies,

Well I've been trying the early waking thing for a while now with mixed results.  She still cries for most of her pm naps and her morning naps are hit or miss with crying.  I've tried various times and nothing seems to work better than another.

Yesterday it took Ella 35 mins to fall asleep for her morning nap, so I decided today to make her nap a little later to see if she could fall asleep faster (moved from 9:20 to 9:30).  Well it completely backfired on me and after 45 minutes of screaming from pu/pd and wi/pd/wo I got her up.  It took about 10 minutes for her to stop crying once I got her out of bed - that never happens.  And now she keeps crying...I think she's overtired now.  The only other thing I can think of is teething, but, as usual, she isn't showing any symptoms.  I just gave her some Tylenol and I'll see if that helps.

So I don't know what to do.  Should I try for one nap today and see how we go?  If so, what time should I put her back down?  It is now 10:35 and if i put her anywhere near her cot she starts to cry.

Thanks ladies,
Michelle.

I haven't tried putting her to sleep in the stroller/carseat for a really long time so I don't know if it will work...I was planning on taking her for a walk so I'll see if I can get her to have a nap in the pram.  For some reason I didn't think to AP - I  should have!

Thanks for the advice Stacy.

Today Joey is taking one nap.  He went to the doctor at 9:15 and we didn't get out until late.  So I'm feeding him lunch in 5 minutes and then putting him in.  Wish us LUCK!

On a sidenote, Stacy, question abouto Carmela.  She is TIRED today.  Her brother woke her up at 5:50  ::)  Do you think if I give her a nap today, I'm going to ruin my efforts for the week???? Please give me insight, girl :)

Stacy I don't think your too hard.  I actually parent a lot like (from what I've read!).  I think what I'm going to do is put on the video and make her rest.  I HATE all of a sudden giving a nap, and undoing anything she may have learned from the past 5 days of no nap.  I figure if she's relaxing on the couch and watching a video, then if she's *that* tired, she'll sleep.  Maybe I'm wrong with my thinking and we'll see.  I could definitely lay with her on my bed and make her sleep.  That would work too.  I'll think about it.  I just want a little catnap for her so I can still have her go straight to bed!

As for Joey, he's being SO SO SO good!  It's scary!

Hi everyone

I was directed over to you guys with 2-1 q's. My son is sort of thinking about dropping a nap. He goes back and forth. He is still young so Im not pushing him. I was just curious, he has been doing this thing where he does 2 days in a row of only one nap. The 2nd day is harder then the first and then the 3rd day he goes back to the 2 naps a day. Its a cycle. Its kind of like he isnt quite there yet but he has occasional days where he wants to stay up. Did anyone else have this happen when they started the transition? Forgive me if this is a repeat question, there were alot of posts to go through for this topic. :)

Ugh think I screwed up today.  We'll see.  As I said, earlier, I never put Joey in for his morning nap.  He went ot the doc at 9:15, and then we stopped at the store and I was hoping he'd sleep in the car.  Nope.  We got home at 11:00 and I figured, I'd give him lunch at 11:30, then put him in.  He got in his crib at 12:10.  Well its now 12:45 and I *think* he's falling asleep.  He's been whining and talking this entire time!   :o  I'll see if he does fall asleep, how long he sleeps for before I decide if this was the worst decision I ever made haha!

As for Carmela, she totally lucked out.  I was going to put her in her room when my MIL came in and told her "she'd watch the video with her" .... I let them because I know my mil was looking forward to it and Carmela got so excited.  But she's totally vegged out so that's a good thing.

I wanted to ask.  When do you girls put htem in?  Do you go by the clock?  Look for tired signs?  If so, what signs do you watch out for?

Nathaniel's mommy- this is really common when they first transition. It's like they are almost ready for 1 nap so cope with it for a couple of days. But then they get really tired so the 3rd day need 2 naps to catch up. Most of us here have been through this just before transitioning!

How do you know Nathan wants the 2 naps on the third day?  How does he act?

Just out of interest I had a look at Sophie's teeth yesterday and I can see... wait for it.... 3 molars and an eye tooth! Good grief, no wonder she's been grumpy lately......

Hi ladies,

Well I am beyond frustrated and don't know what to do next.  I have been shortening Ella's am nap for the past few weeks and it doesn't matter what I do, she still cries hard and screams when I put her down for her pm nap.  Some days it takes her 10 minutes to fall asleep, some days 45+ mins - either way she cries and screams the entire time.  It just keeps getting worse.

I think it was Stacy that said 10-11 months is a hard time for naps.  I know her teething, sitting and standing in the crib are affecting her too.  And I am assuming all this affects her pm nap only because the am nap is a continuation of night sleep etc - is that right?  So short of using AP every day to get her to sleep, what can I do???
