OMG, today was not so good.  She had a bad night last night, woke up at 12, 2 & 5.  She went straight back of to sleep when I went in and laid her down at 12 & 2 but at 5 she was too rested so fought it, I laid her down then laid down on floor as I was sooo tired and she must of sat up then fallen back to sleep as I could hear the rails creaking and she kept moaning so I though she was awake, when I looked there she sat on her knees, asleep  ::)  she finally woke back up at 6am for real.  I put her down at 9.30 and woke her at 10.05.  She went straight of to sleep this afternoon at 1pm too but only slept till 2.20.  By 5pm she was yawning and looked so tired it was into jammies BF & bed by 5.30pm.  She was so tired she fought it till 6.00pm and has woken twice in the last 1.5hrs since.

Not sure whether wakings last night where OT or teeth as she is teething like crazy and has been super grumpy/clingy/viscous all day.  Shes had more meltdowns today than a little  >:(

I think I will let her sleep tomorrow am nap, or do I, bugger, if I let her sleep it'll extend day too long and I'm guessing that if bedtime gets pushed up to far from likely 6am wake up, it wont actually achieve anything. Am i right? How the hell do I get her out of this OT cycle as its just getting worse.  When she was younger if she got OT over several days she would eventually have a super sleep day & night, maxing out both naps & night time sleep but this does not show any signs of happening anymore   ::)

newmum, maybe you need to stick with the shorter am nap but just offer that pm nap a little sooner, so 1pm was likely too late as she only slept 1hr20min, try 12:30pm.

ok, thanks Stacy and Sami,
I think DH needed to have Noah in bed last night by 7pm, instead it was more like 7:15, which was too late as he didn't fall alseep until 7:40, and as we know the early wake this morning.
will consider a 11:45 nap if we have a somewhat normal wake time tommorow,.

ok so today, Noah finally fell alseep at 12:30,
so I 'm thinking I'll wake at 2:30?
and then 7pm bedtime, so that he is asleep by 7:30?
aargh, I know he had that wake time from 5-7am, but know I'm worried it was only 4.5 before the nap and likely asleep by 5hrs afterwards. I hope there is no play sessions tonight.

Watch out Kathleen, just be very careful, your posts are starting to look ot to me. Keep an eye on it and see what happens

Are you psychic or something?  ;D  I just looked back trying to think what I said that made you think this b/c she hasn't really shown any signs (13hrs at night, 2 or more hrs during the day, sleeping until 8am) and all I could see that I posted was her awake spell at night, which was from the poo and tummy issues...so was starting to wonder if you had me mixed up with somebody else...and then just as I read your post I heard her wake after a 1.5hr nap...so we'll be trying to throw in a catnap this evening, not sure how that will go over!

Kat - I posted on the birth club - can you do an early night instead of cat nap?

Deb - Thanks for your advice. Isabella woke when we got up at 6.30 today (Yipee!). She has been with my parent's today and I left instructions for either a 1/2 hr nap at 10am or a 40 min nap if she needed to go a bit earlier (she was very tired this am - think we woke her  :(). I called home at lunchtime and asked how her nap went. Mum had given her an hour at 9.30!! Anyway, she then took another hour at 2pm and was in bed for 6.30 so we'll see how the morning is.

I  hope your evening / night goes well.

Lila,
thanks, hope your night goes well too. 2x1hr naps is great. maybe you don't need to be doing this transition at all....my goodness, noah started refusing afternoon naps after 1hr am naps at like 11months.

Kat, I don't think 1.5hrs is bad at all, just put her to bed early, as you know she is capable of long nights.

We aren't here because of nap refusal. We are here because too much day sleep = 5am starts!

I thought we'd be on 2 naps for ever as she seems to need them and more often than not she takes them. It's just that it was making the night so short and I think night sleep is the best quality sleep (plus I don't do mornings, let alone early ones!!!).

Oh if only you were psychic, this would be renamed "Stacy's Wunnerful World of Happy Babies"  :)  I'd pay top dollar!

Well, instead of pushing a nap it was a beautiful day out so I thought I'd take a drive around and just see if she sleeped and if she didn't then at least she would zone out a bit and get some down-time, plus DH was sleeping off his tummy bug so I was trying to keep her quiet (hah hah) and she did fall asleep for about 30mins in the car which was great because she was happy as could be the rest of the evening.  However...she is not falling asleep as of yet (but it's only 7:45 and she woke at 8am this morning, so no biggie) but is doing her singing bit in the crib so we'll see what time she falls asleep and wakes.

Oh yeah Stacy I was talking about when B was still on two naps she was waking super early at 6:30 and I just went with it.  Now she sleeps until 8 (ahhhh...no offense, Lila! ;)).

So, oh wise and psychic one, what do you think will be the "odd cycle" with it?  Her normal night sleep is 12 hrs so it's only an hour more...do you think she'll just gradually go back to 12 hr nights and keep the long nap?

You gals really think 1.5hrs is enough for a nap?  oof, I just can't picture it since she's always had LOADS of daytime sleep...

Doesn't sound like your parents did too bad, Lila - let us know how she does!

Trust me, I'm watching her like a hawk, LOL!  Her morning is always her absolute hardest to get through no matter what, always has been.  The days she rejected her pm nap she did 2.5hr A times in the morning then a 2hr nap then awake 7hrs until bedtime!  That's why I pushed her hard because I sure as heck didn't want to keep trying 7hr A times just to see if it worked.  LOL!  She just is so sleepy in the mornings.  Before this she only did 2 hr A times in the morning, sometimes 2.5, never ever 3.  So pushing her to 4 has been a feat.  She's always slept more than most - before she was doing 3-4hrs of daytime sleep and 12 at night, so she's always had more than the average, kwim?

Argh...she's been singing fine in there and DH just made a big noise for whatever reason so now she's doing that awful whine thing.  Men.  ;)

hi everyone, long time no see xxx

Lila- just wanted to let you know that we had exactly the same situation as you- Sophie would take 2 great naps but want to start every day before 5  :P
I found the best solution was to limit her daytime sleep to 2 hours to make sure she had 11.5hrs at night. If her day sleep went over 2 hrs she would sleep only 10 hrs which was clearly not enough. In the beginning I cut both naps, similar to you, to 1hr ish. Around 13mo we went to 30mins in the morning and 1.5hrs in the afternoon- this worked really well for us for ages, until she finally transition around 15.5mo. I had to wake her from both naps, mind you, or she would have gone right on sleeping. (and whenever she stayed at MILs she would always give her a full 1.5hrs in the morning , even though I was VERY specific about waking her! so I would get a 5am wake up call the next day, grrrr)

Well, we're back at 20 min AM and 2-3 hour PM nap, with a one nap day thrown in about twice a week.  She just gets OT after too many one nap days in a row.  I'm fine with it, I suppose she'll be 2 when she finally transitions.   ::)  Which may be okay, since DD1 started dropping her only nap at age 2.   :o

OK, so I should of listened to you Deb, but after a rough night, woke at 1am & 5.30 but went back to sleep very easily both times she finally got up at 6.30, very nice thank you  :) I just didn't have the heart to wake her at 30mins in am nap so let her have 45mins as yesterday she was just horrible a lot her teeth but also a lot OT all day. Her afternoon nap which I thought I got just right as she talked for about 5mins before going to sleep was also just 45mins  :( consequently bedtime was early again tonight.  So today went like this
6.30am wake
9.30 nap
10.15 wake
1.30 nap
2.15 wake
5.45 bed

On a brighter not I can now see the 2 teeth causing no end of fun and seriously not helping the sleep situation, just under the skin on gum and tonight she didn't refuse to take the calpol  ;D We have had 2 disturbed nights so I'm hoping tonight will be the last  ;)

Well, I spoke too soon!!! Today Isabella woke at 6am (not too bad), went down fo rnap 1 at 9.30 and Mum thought all was fine as she didn't hear anything for 20 minutes. Then she called her and Mum found out why she had been so quiet.... she had managed to unzip her sleeping bag and take it off!!! Anyway she then went down to sleep at about 10ish and Mum woke her at 10.50. Then guess what?? She refused nap 2!!!! They ended up taking her for a walk and she fell asleep for 40 minutes and woke at 3.20. She was trying to go to sleep in the car when I picked her up, but she managed to get through her bath and she was in bed by 6.15. I've been up once, but I'm hoping she has settled now. Not good though, only 1.5 hrs sleep out of 12.25hrs!! I think we are going to have some OT tomorrow!

If it were me with her today, I think I'd have woken her at 10.30 and tried to get her down again 1.30ish...do you think that would have worked any better?

Just heard her again, I hope she goes off to sleep soon!

OliverRowland let us know how it goes!

Well, we are definitely doing a 2 nap day today!  She had a bit of trouble going off last night, woke at 11pm and just needed a cuddle and went back to sleep (could be teeth, we've only had 2 teeth for 5 months now!) and then up at 7:30.  She was soooo cranky this morning so at one point I took her to her room just for a little cuddle and she looked so sleepy I put her down for a nap at 9:30!  So we're definitely doing a two nap day today.  I knew I have been spoiled with how well things have been going so far.  ;D

So what do you oh wise ladies think...just keep switching back and forth as she seems to handle?  I was excited because I can finally go to Mom's club events (they're usually at 10am) so maybe we'll just do one nap on Mom's club days and two naps on non-event days.  :)
