Hi,
My DD has just turned 10 months, and for the past week we have transitioned her to one nap.She really did this on her own by wanting to stay awake for longer in the morning. When we had our first 1 nap,she went down at 11:30 and slept for 2 1/2 hrs.She did a few days of going down at 11:30,then gradually moved to 11:45,and the past 2 days it has been closer to 12:00.She had been waking early before we did the switch to one nap, usually 5:15/5:30,although she did go back to sleep for a little while. She now wakes up at about 6am,and yesterday,I had to wake her at 7am..result!Could this have been the reason for her early waking, her needing to transition early. She has always had long A times for her age.I know it is early for her to transition, but it seems to be working.I'm just wondering how much daytime sleep she needs,if she sleeps generally 11-12 hours, usually 11 1/2.This is her routine at the moment.

6-7am stir/plays/sleeps a bit more
7:00 Bottle
8:00 Breakfast
10:45/11:00 1/2 of her lunch
11:45/12:00 sleep
2:15 ish wake then fruit and yoghurt
4:45 Tea
6:00 Bath
6:30 Bottle
6:45 Bed

Does this routine look ok,is 2 1/2 hrs of sleep enough or too much for her. When I hear her stir in the morning, she sometimes wimpers a bit,I try not to go in unless she is really agitated, and this only because she has rolled over and got herself into an uncomfortable position, then she usually goes back to sleep or chats to herself on and off.

Any advice?
Thanks

clare

Hi Isabella's Mummy,
I can't quite believe we've gone to one nap so early,She had been getting slightly difficult to go down for her pm nap before the transition, and you could tell she wanted to go on sleeping when I woke her from her morning nap after an hour or so,so I thought i'd why not give it a go.Even if she wakes up early, she can still go through till 11:45,so that must mean she has had enough rest to last that long? She does start yawning a bit when I give her 1/2 of her lunch, but then she'll get another burst of energy when she's eaten which keeps her happy for another 1/2 hr.Then she goes down with no problem and sleeps and sleeps! She does get quite tired by the end of the day, she'll be closing her eyes when she has her bedtime bottle.I don't know whether to let her nap for a little longer or get her to bed earlier, although she has no night wakings due to overtiredness.I guess she's doing brilliantly for her age,so should stop worrying?

Just keep an eye on things over time.  OT can be cumulative and you may see early wakings, shorter naps, or NW a few weeks from now if she isn't ready.  Not trying to be a downer and she may be fine, but just keep watching closely.  ;)

argh, we had a 5:30am wake up and a small NW last night.  He used to get nw regularly where i would find him very frustrated cause he was stuck in a corner...i pull him out give a paci and back to sleep.   last night he needed a bit more help (stroked his hair for 5 min).  Not sure why we are suddenly having them?  we did 1 nap days yesterday and day before with 2 hrs nap each.  i will try 2 naps today?

Two 45min naps yesterday due to teething, which actually got her through the day rather well.  She is driving me nuts but at the same time I feel sorry for her for being in pain.   :-\   We're doing two nap days today as well since we are flying to Seattle at lunchtime (her one-nap time).  Wish us luck sleeping in a new place!

And I don't know what is wrong with Zara, but after that great night, her sleep is worse than ever (although naps still good and long???) so today we will be having two naps since we have been awake since 4am :P

Having said that though, both last night and the night before, and yesterdays nap, she has cried in her sleep reasonably often...no fever, no runny nose etc, VERY rosey cheeks, but eating good, which she doesn't normally do when teething, so I have no idea what is up....

should i take her to Dr just to check?

4am?? EWWW!  :P  I can't imagine.  I thank the sleep gods daily for my non-morning baby.  Could it be different teeth for her produce different symptoms?  Like teeth in the front do a runny nose and teeth in the back do rosy cheeks?

We are successful so far today - she took a LONG nap this am, started getting tired on the plane so just went into hyper mode  ::)  and we managed to get her down for a nap at 4:15pm.  Not great with it so late so who knows what this evening will bring, but there was no way she was going to make it until bedtime so we had no choice.  She was protesting being in a new crib and then just conked out.  :D

Hmm Kat - could be.  Next on the list for teeth for Zara is eye teeth.

I managed to get her to sleep from 6:15 to 7:45 am, then back down for nap at 12:30, without a peep.  Only been 1/2 hr, but so far so good.

Don't jinx yourself, LOL!

Well she only did a 45min nap late this pm, thank goodness!  So we went out to eat and came home and she is just in heaven with all of these "new" toys (we're at my bro and SIL's house, who have a 17mo old), so she stayed up until 8:30 and is out cold.  Wish us luck tonight!

Duly wished your way ;)

LOL Kat, what difference is it if I jinx myself, not likely to get much worse LOL.  Plus her best night in over a month followed a 1 hr nap ::)

It has been suggested to me that these wakings which are not really wakings but crying in sleep are probably nightmares....what do I do about those?

When you go in, is she really-really awake?  Bethany has had a couple but when I go in she either still has her eyes closed or is barely even awake.  I just rest my hands on her and talk very softly and soothingly and it often takes several minutes but then she just goes right back out again like she was never even awake.  If it's really bad I'll just rock her with her blankie and her head on my shoulder until she's calm and then gently put her back down.  As far as telling if that's what she's doing or not, I don't know...  Sorry!   :-\

Yep that is what it has been like sometimes, but worse still, sometimes she is actually asleep, doesn't even open her eyes when I move her (but moving her stops the crying, kind of like doing w2s iykwim....
