Katie

Zander has been under the weather for the past week so on the days we're at home I take him to his room, turn the lights out and play his wave music and give him a cuddle.  3 days this week he's gone straight to sleep (at 9.30 - I couldn't believe it!).  I let his waves play through twice so he's probably asleep for around 15 minutes then carry him downstairs and he usually wakes himself once we're in the light and noise of the house.  He's then taken his main nap at 12.30/1 on those days, 2 hours no problem.  I think it doesn't hurt to offer a nap, if she doesn't want it she won't take it but if she does then she shouldn't get overtired which will stop you from getting a headache!!

thanks Shelby, poor stubborn teething baby. It'll go wrong again but she's been quiet long enough to read and write this. Fingers crossed!

I am just starting the transition to one nap with my DS who is almost 16 months.  He slept 1.5 hours yesterday and one today.... how long will it take for this to increase do you think? its a long day with just one hour sleep!!!!!
Thanks for any tips!

Hello everyone!

my little boy is almost one and I'm totally clueless concerning his naps now. I've been thinking that I need to make the switch to one nap for a while now, but I'm sooo unsure.

Today, Nathan only slept 45 min. in the morning and is fighting any afternoon nap!!!! Is it really time to make the switch?

If anyone here could help me I would really appreciate it!
thanks!

Marilyn

If he's only sleeping 45 minutes in the morning try doing that at around 9.30 and then putting him down again straight after lunch at 1pm.

Sorry ladies, but I am back, too.

In the past 4-5 weeks we have been through a lot. He was sleeping one great nap for about 2 weeks then he got really sick and teeth. So we went back to 2 naps.  That was great for 2 weeks then it started to be too much day sleep and it was effecting his nights.  I tried the short morning nap and either he wouldn't take it OR it just didn't help the afternoon nap at all and we ended with 2 short naps.  With the 2nd nap ending pretty late in the day for him which, in turn effected his night sleep.

So here we are trying for the 1 nap again and for the past 10 days have had 1 nap of 1h15 or LESS!  his nights are pretty good still, sleeping 11.5-12.5 and so far no night wakings like the first time we started the transition but I can't seem to find the right time for the 1 nap.  Right now I am just sticking him on a schedule of nap at noon no matter what time he wakes, which is usually 6:30-7am.  It took a couple of weeks to get to this point with many time adjustments.  Starting early and going later.  I am now wondering if I should move back to 12:30??

Also, he has shortened his nights.  At first he was adding on a lot of night sleep b/c of the lost day sleep and I thought that was the problem.  Now the nights are shorter and he is still doing pretty short naps.  For example last night he slept 11.5 and today's nap was 1h5min!

Any thoughts on our schedule?

6:30/7 wake up
12 nap - goal is to get 2 hours!
6:30-7pm bedtime

Thanks!
Meg

ETA: ok, after thinking about this some more, and sleeping on it, and listening to PJ chat in his crib since 6:22 am , I am thinking anymore than 5 hours might be too long A time for him right now.  But I think that putting him down at 11:22 this morning is pretty early.  SO I think I will go for a touch earlier than noon, maybe 11:45.  Unless you ladies give me some other advice!

I am tempted to do w2s with him, but I am not sure when I should go in..

thanks

How did PJ do today, Meg? I think if you try W2S maybe try it only half an hour into his nap? That used to work for me.

So I remembered today why the morning catnap screws us up. Marisa just got over a wicked virus compounded by teething and shots. Fever has been gone since Monday but she's still tired and cranky. Anyway, she woke early this morning - was woken at 6am with a very messy diaper. She fell asleep in her stroller while running errands around 9:45. I woke her at 10 and she was so overtired and wired and cranky. She fought sleep for a while but then finally just went out at 1:15 - will let her sleep 2 hours tops and try for an early-ish bedtime...

Almost welcome back Stacy!

well PJ ended up falling asleep at 1150 - it was still 5.5 hours of A time.  He slept for 2.5 hours!!  :D ;D :o 8) :-*

I don't know what we did differntly, the only thing we did was go to a playroom this morning for an  1.5 hours.  Wasn't crazy busy, but he did love it. Maybe that was it.

Then he crashed for bed at 6:55pm. I was shocked about that, too

He is probably sick. LOL

If a 15 minute morning nap leaves your LO grumpy try a little longer - we used to do 20-30 minutes and only dropped to 15 minutes when Zander wouldn't sleep again if he took longer.

I attempted to repilicate the day, but he was up with the birds this morning. 6am!  so we did go out for some errands then attended a playgroup.  He was pretty grumpy at the group.  We came home had lunch and he is sleeping now at 1145.  I hope he does ok.  I haven't a clue.........
