so hopefully she sleeps at least 2 hours so we can get through the afternoon and have a well rested bambina!

Sleep Marisa!!! Sleep!!!

Tyler has gone from 2 1/2-3 hour naps to 1 1/2 hours which has made the late afternoons and evening UNBEARABLE.  We moved his bedtime from 7:45 to 7:15PM since he was up BEFORE 2PM from his nap.  Unfortunately, he is waking up earlier in the mornings now.  He used to sleep till 7 or 7:30AM, now it is closer to 6:30ish.

I tried an AM cat nap yesterday of 30 minutes but then he absolutely refused to nap again in the afternoon.  This is getting to be a vicious cycle.

I'm sure I'm jinxing it by writing this by I "think" Marisa is still asleep now at 1:10, 1 hour and 40 minutes so far. Really hope she can make it to 1:30, of course 1:45 would be even better. And then bedtime 5.5 hours later I think.

Oh no Judy! What time are you currently putting him down for his nap?

Marisa...please give your mommy 1:45!!! Actually 2!!!   :) :)

I have been putting him down between 12-12:15PM.  I am afraid to move it up in case he continues to take shorter naps!   :-\ :-\

Well she slept 2 hours and is just waking now at 1:30 - so that's good. I'll try to get her to 7pm bedtime and hope she doesn't doze off in the stroller again - although if she does I don't have the heart to stop her.

Maybe try 12:30 Judy? Could teething be waking him? Is he eating enough before the nap?

2 hour nap for Marisa!!! That is great!!!   :) :) :)

I am nervous to push him to 12:30PM for his nap for fear of being overtired.  I thought maybe even 12:00 was too late and that was why he was waking..

Anyways, today I put him down with a full belly and a little motrin and he is going on 2 hours which is more his norm......  Let's keep our fingers crossed....for all of us!!!   :) :)

You are probably right about the teething.  He's been poking at his right ear too....so maybe another Ear Infection.....GREAT!!!

Glad Tyler's taking a long nap - maybe the ear poking is related to the teething? Marisa does that sometimes when she's teething badly. Is he working on molars? Those can hurt in the jaws and reflect into the ears.

OK, questions!!!!!!!

1)  For 4 days in a row, he will NOT take a morning nap, and I can't get him to go down until at least noon
2)  What do I do when he wakes up at 1:30?  Is an hour and 15 minutes long enough? I don't think so!

Poor monkey is going to be so tired later today.

Hi there!

I have been lurking for some time but I REALLY need some advice. I am getting sooo frustrated!  I have been shortening my dd first nap (to 30 minutes) b/c she has been so difficult to get down for her second nap and won't fall asleep till 3 or 3:30. So....today she napped from 9:30 to 10:00am.  Then I put her down at 12:30pm and she fell asleep by 12:45.  Then she woke up at 1:43 and WILL NOT go back to sleep. It is driving me NUTS!  She will just keep standing up over and over and over. I do wi/wo to no avail. Then I will even try to pat her back to sleep.

I know that this is not enough daytime sleep for her. I am at a loss and about to yank my hair out!  :'( :'( :'( :'(

Any advice will be taken w/ WIDE open arms!!

 :-[ Shelby

OK, so #1 wasn't exactly a question...more just a statement  ;)

not sure if it is molars.  He only has his 4 front teeth so far  :-\ :-\ :-\, 2 on the top and 2 on the bottom.

Molars are last right?

What is Marisa doing while you are on the computer?  I can never get on while Tyler is awake.  He will try and climb onto my lap so he can bang on the keyboard.   ??? ??? ???

Believe me, I have tried.  But he won't go to sleep until just after noon.  He talks, sings, jumps up and down....no sleeping though.

So, do I get my crying monkey out of his bed and go about my day and give him another cat nap later, or do I leave him?

I never liked doing this but I know it worked for a lot of the other mothers.....If he gets up 1:30PM than put him to bed earlier..like 6:30-7PM.

I would try an afternoon cat nap in the car or stroller so he could go to bed at his normal time.

Sorry to be wishy washy.

Amy - I'll tell you what I did but I warn you, I'm strict  ;)  Zander was only doing a 1.25/1.5 hour nap at one point and I knew it wasn't enough so I chose a day when I was feeling strong and I did wi/wo until he went back to sleep.  I think it took about 1.5 hours to get him to go back to sleep on his own for another 30 minutes.  Ever since then I've done wi/wo if he's woken earlier than 2 hours (though if he's happy I just leave him to play on his own).  I've cheated on occasions lately when he's been sick and taken a dummy in but my stand on leaving him in his cot for 2 hours stays!  It might help to take him for a lovely long walk at around 9.30/10 (before he starts to get tired so he won't fall asleep) as this will help him to conserve some energy.

I'm glad you both got long naps today Judy and Karen  ;D

Welcome Amy and Shelby!

Judy - molars can come in any order really. Typically the eye teeth are last actually (well other than the two year molars anyway). I actually have a friend who has a son with one front tooth and one molar. Crazy! Can't hurt to have his ears checked though. Marisa is sitting next to me rummaging through "her" cupboard and making a mess. Any second now she'll be begging to get on my lap and bang on/eat the keyboard though.

Amy, I agree with Judy - if he won't go back to sleep now then see if he will take a 15-20 minute catnap in car or stroller later? Otherwise super early bedtime?

Shelby, other than shortening first nap to only 20 minutes, have you thought about moving to one long nap?

Thanks Kelly!

Wow the board is busy today!

Shelby, I agree with the others that it sounds like your LO is ready to make the jump to one nap -- welcome!

Amy, how far is your LO into the nap transition?  Our naps started short for the first few weeks (when he did do a single nap), but in the latest go-around have lengthened another 15-20 minutes.  A couple of my girlfriends said their LOs did the same thing.

Kelly, I think you are totally right that I need to have him down earlier last night, and I knew that, but let him play in bath for too long.  He woke at 5:20 this morning (so I'm definitely thinking he needed more winddown last night, and got overtired from falling asleep so late).  I have to keep reminding myself that they are especially sensitive during this nap tranistion.
