Hi Ladies,

we are having a few troubles again!

Lo is nearly 12months and is currently waking at 6.15am, 1st nap at 9.30am which I let him have 30mins & he settles straight away for.

I then try for 2nd nap after 3hours A time- so in bed by 1pm. But, he REALLY fights this nap & often won't take it.
I have tried going back to 45min am nap incase he was over tired, but this didn't work & he still fought his PM nap.
It's too early to go for 20min AM nap isn't it?
When he skips his PM nap I get him to bed by about 6-6.30pm, but he usually goes to bed & straight to sleep at 7pm.

Any advice on how to get him to settle for his PM nap would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Jxx

Do you think he is OT?  If he has had many days with no pm nap he may be OT.  What about trying the pm nap at 2.75h after a 30 min nap?  If not you could try a 20 min am nap but  12mos seems a bit early.

I agree, I would try the pm nap earlier with a really good windedown (sp?).

I'm really not sure if he is OT or not, when I put him down for his PM nap he just seems to awake and untired and he plays around in his cot for ages. ometimes he will eventually go off to sleep (after over 1 hour of playing!) & other times I just give up!

Ok, I will try going for PM nap at 2.75hours tomorrow.

Thanks for your help

I'm back again :(

Joey is giving me a hard time with naps the past few days.  I'm not sure if I should just bite the bullet and go for one nap or what.  But when I put him down for the first nap, he cries or plays for 20 mins and then only sleeps 10 mins before I get him up.  Then when I put him down later for his second nap, he's waking up after 45 minutes crying and then taking a little bit to go back to sleep for another 45 mins.

Somedays I've been just giving him one nap, and he's doing much better but only sleeps for 1.5 hours.  should I just stick with this???

Please help!

What about letting him SLEEP for 20 mins?  I listen to my DS and actually set a timer for 20 mins when I think he has fallen asleep.  Then I do A time from whenever I get him up after he has actually had 20 mins of sleep.

Wait, i'm confused. I thought we were supposed to have really short am naps and longer pm naps, but that never really  made sense to me. What M and N's mom made more sense - so i should push back the am nap as long as i could and let her sleep as long as possible, then offer a catnap if she wakes too early. And have an early bedtime?

This is actually what Tracy recommends in one of her books...although a lot of people have success with the short am nap...

Layla did you ever get the info you were looking for in the book?  I'm not at home but will be later if you still need it.

I couldn't get Ollie to have a pm catnap if he'd had a good am nap so had no choice but to try the other way round. Tracy makes it sounds sooo simple and it just soooo isn't!

We've had another OK two nap day today, but he woke half way through his pm nap, which I don't see as a great sign. Asleep by 6:45 this evening but we've had one NW already at 10:15...

Ah well, I'm sure he'll grow out of this in time to make the transition to no naps  ::)

So you think I should let him sleep 20 mins from whenever he falls asleep?  Then how much A time do I do for 20 min am nap?  He does 3 hours on a 30 min nap.

45 min nap today :P

And doesn't seem tired at all....in fact, didn't seem tired when we put her down for the nap either, so maybe she quite simply wasn't tired enough....

Sounds like you're right, Rina...

We had OT day from hell yesterday - our flight home fell right in the middle of her naptime and she only got a 20min nap on the plane...then took from 7pm to TEN pm to fall asleep!  Nothing I could do would get her down.  :(  Needless to say she only managed 1.5hr A time this am...   ::)  should be an interesting day today.

Better night last night in the end. Slept til 5am but settled back down til 6:10 (not that I could sleep again tho  >:( ). But would napped for just over an hour so we've tried to get him in bed a bit earlier. Who knows what tomorrow will bring!

Layla - yes that is a piano in the background, albeit an unspeakably out of tune piano! Just haven't got round to getting in retuned since we moved house in Feb.

hello all!

we are at a bit of a rough patch right now aswell. Cetainly our days are just not consistant, Noah sometimes wakes at 6 and then other times sleeps till 7, so naps are starting anywhere from like 11:45 til 12:30---and bedtime anywhere around 7, this is sort of driving me
crazy!! ::)
today he woke at 6am (was asleep by 7pm because only 1hr40min nap yesterday) but must have been OT this am, was grumpy at 10 while we were at the zoo, fell asleep in the car at 10:45 for 10min,---well I should have made it 5min, because I layed him down at 12:30---and he played til 1, I hope he is asleep now, so I'll probably wake him 2:30 or so and hope that he is still alseep 7:15 tonight.  I am not sure he even would have lasted til 11:30 for 1 nap so really I guess this was the best case scenario.

Oh Stacy, I am a total Type A personality and a Taurus, love structure and consistancy LOL....but I do hear what you are saying.
just so hard to figure out what Noah needs,
plus we have had 2 wakes in a row of 6am, trying to avoid these.....and I think bedtime can't be 7--I've got to get him falling asleep closer to 7:30 and waking at 6:30.
