Eggs - does anyone know the recommended intake a week???
« on: April 29, 2006, 04:59:29 am »
Hi,,
I have just given Andy eggs, at 12 months, and he loves them.  Does anyone know how many he should be having a week.

Thanks,
Donna

I believe at that age they can have 3 a week. Before that i would only recommend 1 a week.

i was always advised that children can have 1 egg a day - it is a great food for them and healthy.  even adults can now have more eggs than previously advised as the cholestoral issues apparently were reviewed and revised a while ago.

According to Super Baby Food they should have 3-4 eggs per week, or just serve one every other day so it's easier to keep track.

I just gave Luke eggs tonight for the first time.  He's on a baby food strike and will only eat big people food.  He LOVED them.  He's not a year yet, but I figure since he's just shy of 11 months, it's not that big of a deal, right?   I probably had eggs waaaaay earlier than this and I'm not an ax murderer  ;) ;D

now is everyone giving lo's the whole egg (minus the shell of course ;) ) or just the yolk? i have been giving dd only the yolks - but i am sure she has had food cooked with eggs and hasn't had any reaction at all so would i be able to give her the whites too now..she is almost 11 months too,...

In the UK, we are advised that well cooked eggs (white and yolk both solid) can be given from around 6-8 months.  We dont get told to give only the yolk up to a certain age and then give white after that.  That said, dd used to eat scrambled egg/omelete and will not even touch them now!!
