Healthy snacks - 10 mos
« on: April 29, 2006, 15:53:37 pm »
My dd is about 10.5 months and I've made all of her baby food (except carrots). More and more, she wants finger foods and mid-day wants a snack. I don't want to give her crackers and junk like that but I need some more creative ideas.

So far, she has had (either mashed or as finger foods):

FRUITS
peaches
pears
plums
strawberries (cooked & pureed in cereal)
blueberries (cooked & pureed in cereal)
bananas
apples
nectarines
mango
cantaloupe

VEGGIES
squash (many varieties)
peas
sweet Potatoes
avocados
zucchini
broccoli
carrots (jar only)
green beans
white potatoes
corn

PROTEIN/DAIRY
steamed or baked chicken
yogurt
cheese
eggs

Cherrios and graham crackers
toast

I haven't given her any beans.

I feel like she doesn't get much variety. Also, she wants to have finger food but doesn't seem to actually get much in. I try not to give her anything with too much spice.

Does anyone have any good ideas on variations? What are you feeding your LOs at this age?

What do you think about giving things like Cheerios and graham crackers?

I was checking out daycares the other day and they were giving the 10-13mos babies Cheez-Its. I don't think that is good. What do you think? My sister says that I'm being overly paranoid about her food. Am I?

Although he is not a food pioneer, ds likes blueberry pancakes and lima beans (slightly squished).  We may try french toast soon, too.

Do you seriously class 26 different foods as not enough variety? You sound like you're doing a good job at getting your LO to try different foods, and healthy too. I'm not sure I'd change anything if I were you.

I am so in awe of what you have been feeding your LO... puts me to shame  :-[

William's finger food of choice is diarylea cheese spread on toast.

Lauren's mama,

Your food offerings look exactly like mine!  I too have been worried about the food becoming a bit boring.  A couple of things I'm doing now that you might try:

Fingerfood:
chunks of tofu (also tofu mixed in with veggies if you're spoonfeeding)
plain, unsalted ricecakes
pasta
cucumber cut into "french fry" strips
canned tuna chunks

All but the tuna has been popular so far in our house...

Good luck!
