Help Please..new here don'tknow where to start
« on: May 01, 2006, 22:34:17 pm »
Hi All,

I have a soon to be 1 yr old who has gotten used to gettin geither in bed with us or sleeping on the couch.  So I've tried everything to get him to sleep in his crib and he gets so worked up its crazy.  I give up and take him downstairs and sleep with him so that he doesn't wake anyone else up!

This afternoon I decided enough was enough and tried the pu/pd method and patted his back until he fell asleep...it worked!!!!!  I'm scared about otnight.  He wakes up so mad and doesn't settle down easy so I'm worried.

I really want to start with the EASY plan. Any hints or tips?

Thanks in advance.

Hi there, and welcome!
In regards to starting EASY with your LO you can still do this even though he is sleeping on the couch etc. I don't personally have advice on the sleeping issue.Hopefully someone will jump in on that point...BUT...with regards to EASY start small. Start the day at approx the same time, then feed within 10 minutes of waking..acitivity..then back to sleep etc... What is the current schedule like right now? perhaps if you post it, we may see that you aren't that far off --wouldn't that be nice?  ;)
PU/PD board should be able to help if you have any questions in that regard..I myself used/still use Pat/shh and it works most of the time.
Just persevere, and have faith that allthat you are doing now will payt off.

Thanks for the links...definalty helpful.

Unfortunaly we don't have a schedule for him.  HIs day generally looks like this:

Up between 7 - 7:30
Eat:  8:00-8:30
Might Nap at around 10-11
Lunch 12:00
Might nap at 2:00-4:00
Supper 5:30
Bed (asleep on the couch) at around 9-9:30
Then he wakes in fits of madness around 2:00 am and needs to be either in our bed or the couch.  He usually stays awake about 1/2 hour or so.

THIS is what I'm thinking might be better.

Up: 7:00 with his brothers
eat: 7:30
Activity: 8:00 to 9:30
Sleep: 9:30 to 10:15
eat snack: 10:30
Activity: 10:30 -12:30
eat: 12:30
Activity: 12:30 to 1:30
Nap: 1:30 to 3:30
Eat: 3:30
Activity: 3:30 to 5:30
Eat: 5:30
Activty 6:00 to 8:00
Start Bed Time Routine 8:00
In Bed 8:30

Reece seems to be able to stay away for longer periods of time.  We are parnts who kinda just let them sleep when they want.  I'm sure thats whats got me to that point..but it was okay with the first 2!

anyways...heres hoping that works!  What do you all think about that routine?

Looks like a good plan.  How long are his naps currently?
