Easy all over the shop with 6am feed
« on: May 01, 2006, 09:16:50 am »
HIYA!
hope you can help!
My lo is 10 weeks old and has been on 3 hour easy for 6 weeks starting at 7am.  he has a dreamfeed at 11pm and usually between 3.30am and 5am for a feed.
This night feed has moved to 6am for the past few nights.  Am so confused what to do!!! :-\ This morning I fed him and put him straight back to bed like a normal night feed.  So we let him sleep until 8am as he wouldn't be hungry until then.  He didn't eat until 8.30am and now it's 10 am - his normal feed time and he's not hungry!
Should we have skipped the first morning feed and let him go from 6am - 10am til his next feed?  Meaning that we will be on 6 feeds a day?  Should I wake him up at 7am and feed him (although he is not hungry and I don't think he'll take it).  Is a 6am waking for a feed indicative of me needing to go onto 6 feeds a day rather than 7?
Help?  Today we are all over the shop with his timings!  They are completely out!
Thank you!
Louise

Hi Louise

Things aren't as bad as them seem and it is eay to fix.  ;)

If it where me I would give you night feeds as normal, treat wakeups before 7am as a night feed, and if you can still do a topup at 7am, then feed as normal at your next 'E' time.

Is your LO taking a full bottle at 6am? if so it may be worthwhile reducing this. I only every gave a few oz's on a night feed because any more would give him wind.

If you need more help can you  post your routine.

Hiya!
Thanks for your post!  I am breastfeeding so he pretty much takes what he wants and then falls asleep. He is such a quick feeder and I have such a lot of milk that 10 mins pretty much empties me!  Should I try and reduce this time for his 6am feed?  And do you think that eventually he will drop this 6am feed?  Or will I always be feeding at 6 and then again an hour later?

I would try and reduce the 6am feed so it only see your LO through to 7am and then feed at 7am. Your Lo will eventually drop the 6am feed, you are doing excellent if that is the only waking from the DF  ;)

If you feed on both sides, you could feed on only 1 side at the early morning wake up.  Just a thought.

That's what I do... two sides the rest of the day, but 1 side for a night-waking after 3am, then he pops off and immediately starts looking for his thumb to resettle. I give him the other side at 7am-ish, and he's fine going till later for his next one.
