Activity time only 10 minutes?
« on: May 01, 2006, 22:10:23 pm »
I've noticed that most people's EASY schedule inludes a wake time from let's say 7:30 to 8:30. My little girl starts to  yawn after only 10 minutes! There's no way I could keep her up that long. Is a ten min wake time too short for a three week old?

She often takes so long to even fall asleep, that she gets overtired trying to fall asleep! She's very sleepy at the breast almost always.

Is this normal?  ???

Thanks!

hi again
Do the 10mins also include your 'E' time if not add that on as well. I know its confusing but it is awake time from last nap/sleep to next nap/sleep.

Thanks for all your replies! I appreciate it.

So you're saying that in calculating the awake time, it includes her feeding time?

The bummer with that is she sleeps through most of her feedings ( I really have to work on keeping her awake). I'm sure that will improve as she gets older.

I just want to make sure I understand, though, that activity time starts the moment she wakes up until she goes down, including feeding, right?

Thanks again!

My baby did the same thing when she was so young, she had VERY little awake time outside of feedings.  It was an accomplishment if I could keep her awake through the end of the feeding, then change her diaper and put her down awake.  It sounds like you're doing great, implementing the routine so young!  Good luck!

Precious picture, btw :)

Thanks, Amanda!
It's good to know she's not the only one! :-) It's not easy keeping her on a schedule at this point, but we're doing the best we can. I'm sure it will get easier as she gets older.

When my DD was that young her total awake time was 30-40 mins, 20 mins feeding and then change her nappy, have a few minutes cuddling and then off to sleep she goes.

Yes it does.

Enjoy her young age b/c the awake time DOES get easier but other problems creep up!  Like 30 minute naps!  I do think you should be proud that you're on any kind of schedule at this early age, since the majority of people are not!  You're setting up good habits for her! :)  Good luck!
