my little boy is starting to wake up in the middle of the night and we are finding it soooooooo dificult to get him to go back to sleep.
he's always been a good sleeper and has mostly slept through the night since he was like 3 months old.
this is our typical routine
6:30 AM --wake up
6:30 to 8:30 AM --eat and play (breakie is usually toast with a fruit)
8:30 AM -- nap
somewhere between 9 and 10 wake up
9-10 AM -- play
11:30 AM --lunch (usually fruit with cheese and yogurt)
noon -- we usually go out to play groups or for a walk
somewhere between 2 and 3:30 PM --goes down for nap
wakes up usually around 4:30--5 PM
5:30 PM -- Supper (is whatever we're eating something like spaghetti with sauce and a veggie)
7:30 PM -- bottle
somewhere between 7:30 and 9:30 PM bedtime.
andrew is bottle fed. the night waking is generally just once, but it can take up to 2 hours to get him to go back to sleep. we don't think he's teething right now, but he has been drooling a lot the last week or so. he has a soother and a bunny that he sleeps with (although the bunny is not necessary for sleep, the husband gives it to him b/c he thinks it's cute).
i've tried putting him down earlier and later and nothing seems to help. he still wakes up at around 2:30--3:00 AM. he's not hungry, doesn't want to have a bottle. he thinks it's play time.
we've tried for an hour to get him to go back to sleep (a variety of things: pick up/put down, waiting it out, feeding him). it seems like he'll almost calm down and then work himself back into a frenzy. eventually we'll just cave and bring him into bed with us. but sometimes even then he doesn't sleep. he'll lay there and it seems like he almost falls asleep and then he jerks his arms to wake himself up.
this has been going on for about 2 weeks now and sucking the life out of his parents.
any suggestions? i've tried shorter naps during the day, longer naps diuring the day. earlier bedtime, later bedtime. nothing seems to be helping.
