Has anyone heard of Lecithin?
« on: May 04, 2006, 22:09:57 pm »
Someone told me that I could take Lecithin if I felt like I might be getting a clogged duct because it will help break up fatty tissue.  She said she used when BF to avoid mastitis.  I am going to ask my lactation consultant and research it online, but was wondering if anyone had any experience with it.

'fishy body odour' sounds like something to watch out for though!

I have heard of it, though not necessarily used for that. Sounds like it may work. I don't think it would hurt anything, but may smell odd! ;) ;)

I have used due to a darn bleb (blocked duct on the surface of the nipple that looks like a little white dot and hurts like hell!). Anyways.... I took 1 capsule 4 times a day until it improved - about 2 weeks (capsules are about 1200mg if I remember). Then I dropped the amount to 3 or 2 a day. It helped and no... DH never mentioned I smelled weird.  ;) It's an emulsifier and is found in many food we buy - it essentially helps the milk "glide" out of the ducts better.

My lactation consultant recommended it to me for the same reason. She said that if you have fibrocystic breasts it will also help keep the milk ducts unclogged. I never tried it though and things have been ok for the past 10 mos
