what to feed after recovering from illness?
« on: May 05, 2006, 20:33:47 pm »
hi,

not sure if this should be posted here or elsewhere, but need some advice on how to feed ds!

he's 13 mo and had a vomiting episode yesterday. the dr. advised no solid food until 24 hrs after vomiting stops, so today i've been feeding him well-cooked rice porridge and some crackers. however he still seems very hungry and eager to eat, so i'm not sure if it's ok to feed him meats, fruits and veggies now (he sneaked a grape when i wasn't looking!)

i also don't know when to intro milk. the dr. advised to go it slow, about 1 oz at a time, but i forgot how long i should hold out until introducing milk again.

any advice much appreciated! thanks.

I give chicken broth/soup to my son when he's recovering from an illness. I think I remember it was 24 hours after vomiting you can reintroduce milk watered down 50/50, then gradulally build up again. But if diarrhorea returns then drop the milk for a while and try again later.
