Crawling movements whilst lieing on the back???
« on: May 07, 2006, 16:36:11 pm »
DD rolls well and can crawl backwards quite well but has decided that the best way to go forwards is to lie on her back and "crawl" forwards - headwards - it seems a bit like a butterfly stroke would in swimming.  I have never seen any other babies do this, have you?  I would love to know any other experiences from you since this seems quite effective but a little weird.
thanks

Katie did that for quite awhile actually, we called it her "scoot" - she actually did it prior to learning how to crawl the right way.  I thought it was pretty funny and rather clever of her.  I have heard of other babies doing it too - doesn't seem like the most common thing, but it's definitely something that some babies do.  I guess it's because babies spend so much more time on their backs than their tummies these days - have to get around somehow! :)

and she still crawled, great, I thought she'd be focussed on her back from now on  ;D  isn't it amazing how these babies learn to move.

I think eventually she realized it was easier to see where she was going  ;D
