Starting Solids and Need Advice
« on: May 08, 2006, 17:22:21 pm »
 ???
Hello, I am trying to find information on how to start the solids. Geoffrey will be 6 months in a couple of days and I believe you are supposed to start with baby rice, but which feed(s) times are best and what about the steamed fruit and veg as well? Any and all advice will be helpful!!! Thanks you!!!!!  Jennifer

Hello there!

My pediatrician advised me to begin w/ rice cereal either mixed with water or milk (breast or formula). She also said at 6 months I could begin w/ veggies and then fruits. My daughter is 6 1/2 months and we have introduced a new vegetable every 4 days. I began w/ zucchini, green beans, squash, avacado, carrots, cauliflower, sweet peas. I then added pears and banannas. Some recommend waiting to introduce fruits b/c most all babies are going to enjoy the sweet solids. I wanted my baby to get used to the veggies first. Most all of the veggies I will boil and then puree in a food processor.  There are several good baby food books out there if you are wanting some references.

Hope this helps some

about fruits being sweet, someone mentioned that they had tried the breast milk and it is really sweet, so they said not to worry about the sweetness of the fruit putting them off...
