Time to transition?
« on: May 08, 2006, 20:41:06 pm »
My DS is 4 months old today and his routine has gone a bit wobbly over the last week.  Usually it has been:-

 7.00am  Feed
 7.30am  Activity
 8.30am  Sleep
10.00am Feed
10.30am Activity
11.30am Sleep
 1.00pm Feed
 1.30pm Activity
 2.30pm Sleep
 4.00pm Feed
 4.30pm Activity
 5.30pm Catnap
 6.00pm Bath, massage
 6.45pm Feed
 7.15pm Bed

He has never slept 1.5 hours for all three naps, but usually gets 3 to 3 1/2 hours nap time in total and has one night feed at about 4am.

Anyway, over the last week he has started to want to stay awake and play until 45 minutes before his next feed.  This means that often when he feeds, he is still tired and then falls asleep or gets grouchy while he's feeding.  He seems to be OK for his first nap - it's still about 1 1/2 hours from 8.30am, but the rest of the day gradually goes right off routine.  By bath time he often just wants to sleep so he ends up having his bath and going to bed later.

Is this time to move to 3.5 or 4 hour?

Thoughts and suggestions greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Mama

Mama,
Have you seen this thread?  It should help out alot!  It does sound like your lo is ready to move toa 4 hour EASY, but make the transition gradually.

Hi Rachel,

Yes, I had read through it and was thinking that it sounded like time to transition - just wanted someone else to say so, I guess! Wasn't sure if there are other common 'blips' or if I was doing something wrong.   I'm going to sit and work out my own transition plan to fit with DS's current pattern.  Not sure yet whether to do it very gradually or to do it a bit more drastically.

Thanks for your reply  :)
