When first starting do you feed then till they turn away?
« on: May 08, 2006, 21:16:17 pm »
Hi there-
Just starting on soldis. Do you limit the amount at first or do you just feed them til they turn away? My DS has been on cereal once a day for a few weeks and he could always eat more. I guess I give him about 2 tbspns. Today I gave him yams from a baby food jar and he ate 1/2 the jar and then I stopped b/c I thought "How much yams can one little tummy hold?" I also don't want to lose my breastmilk supply, however, I don't want him to go around hungry either!
Thanks

Your best bet is to keep a close eye on his nursing habits. If he loses interest in nursing or starts spending less time at each nursing session, that may be a cue that he's filling up on solids and is too full to nurse. If you pump, you can also make sure your supply isn't decreasing that way. It's a hard balance and requires some guesswork...I suppose that if he's ravenous by nursing time or is getting hungry early, you can probably increase his solids. Good luck!
